There are three main reasons children misbehave. Either they are frustrated because they are unable to communicate their feelings effectively, or because they have learned to manipulate their parents into giving them what they want to avoid outbursts. The third reason is because young children are learning their boundaries, they want to see just how far they can push their parents and see what kind of reaction they will have. Children are like little sponges, they pick up on everything...they watch faces, and listen to everything we say, and most of all they learn how to act by watching others. Teaching our children respect, kindness and patience can mold our children into good respectable, kind and patient adults.

By embarrased I assume you mean that you are correcting them in public ?
Most children seek attention as they go through different stages of development,this continues well after the age of 18 in most children.
It has alot to do with the central nervice system and the chemicals that are in the brain.
The next time you experience this behavior ,you,ll know why at least and that its typical of adolesence.

Actually they are not "seeking" to be embarassed they are looking for attention and approval from their peers. Kids that have low self esteem usually do things that will draw attention away from their mistakes and insecurities. Many adults do the same things too..I guess it's one way of coping.

Nope. Kids do NOT intentionally try to get you, or anyone else, to embarrass them. Some kids are more willing to RISK it (drama classes, the class clown, etc) in order to achieve their dreams, short term goals, etc... But on a normal day, at the mall with the folks, Kids would prefer NOT to have their parent blow up at them and cause a big scene...

I don't think that they "seek to be embarrassed" as much as it is a part of the constant "test" to see how far they are allowed to go. They are testing to see if certain things are okay in public vs in private.

I don't think any children actually seek embarrassment. Maybe the reaction they get is the one they want. If they are embarrassed in the process, maybe that is worth it.

Sadly enough kids that do this are simply just wanting attention.

Probably not. Most so-called behavior problems are made-up anyway.
