Does that mean they're mentally ill or people look down on people with mental probs or what?

I always think of those who look down on people with mental problems as having a problem of their own. They are overly judgmental, harsh, negative insecure people. They may suffer from low self-esteem or be depressed.

Even though the problem isn't very strong they are still mentally ill. People are always reluctant to let others know about their mental disorders wither it's mild or not because it's still a disorder. It is still looked down upon. So the person still feels bad about having it. It's just that 'normal' people sometimes don't see why the person with this disorder feels so bad because it's not severe and don't think that there is a prejudice for them. However that prejudice does still exist.

There is still a stigma attached to mental illnesses. Also people with mental illnesses feel as if they are causing trouble for loved ones if the loved ones have to help them. I think this is a normal reaction to having a mental disorder, even a mild one.

A lot of people do "look down" on others with mental problems, but only because they don't understand them correctly. A lot of mental diseases are used as sarcasim and jokes, so there is a lack of general knowledge about them.

If you feel bad about it, maybe it is because you don't fully understand it either. Don't feel like you have to be alone in it. Get educated, and then educate others about the illness.

Also, seeing a pyschologist may help you sort through thoughts about it. Contrary to popular belief, psychologists can not prescribe medicine. They are solely talk therapy and counseling and can work wonders. They are also extreamely non judgemental, because they have a very detailed knowledge in mental illnesses.

Good luck.

People with mental illness are scorned by society. Their concerns are dismissed without thought. I worked with one lady who said about a volunteer "He's from the psych ward, so you know what that means." She was suggesting that he would not do his job when in fact he did his job very well. Whatever his mental issues were, they did not seem apparent to me. But anytime he spoke up about something that was wrong, other people ignored him, and said "he's mental, he doesn't know what he's talking about."

It's sad, but this is the way people with mental illness are treated in our society. The only way to avoid it is not to let anyone know you have a mental illness.

It means they are normal. Nobody is excited to learn that they have a disorder, mental or physical. They are probably scared of what this means now and for their future.
