I have seen advertisements for Ambien, Lunesta, and another one recently that starts with the letter "R"..(I don't remember the exact name), all of these commercials have the side effects at the end. One of the side effects is drowsiness. If it is a sleep medication then why would that be a "side-effect"? I would hope it is the "MAIN-EFFECT".

Apparently the drowsiness could occur when you are not sleeping, as in the next day while you are driving to work.

I think that they say that about the next morning. Kind of like a hangover. If you are considering taking a sleep aid, try not to use anything that is a benzo, like Ambien. It is very addictive as compared with Lunesta, which is a little addictive, but not so bad.

There could be residual side effects, and that includes sleepiness. You're right; that's what you want the medication to do before you go to sleep.

However, with all sleep medications, you need to get a feel for how they affect you before driving or doing other dangerous stuff.

I use plain old Tylenol PM. Works great!

Ditto WendyD.

Recently it's started coming up that Ambien can cause as many accidents as alchohol.

A few weeks ago a writer sent in a list of 'warnings' that have appeared on a number of products- Including warnings that just plain common sense should be plenty of warning about. I'm not sure whether to laugh or to groan in despair.

Most of them tell you to allow 8 hours for sleep, so if you don't sleep that long, the effects would still be there. Some people may need more than 8 hours of sleep for the medication to wear off.

the drowsiness effect that they are refering to is the drowsiness you still feel the next day. there is a required amount of sleep that you are supposed to get everynight while taking these medications i think it is 8hrs or so,so i ffor some reason you do not sleep this reqired amount the next day you will be drowsy.
