Right now toys are just so much fun for him! Give him a couple more weeks to get accustomed to having people around him and he'll start playing more. Then you'll be wishing he would leave you alone and play with the toys more. My pomeranian was the same way and it was because the breeder didn't mess with the puppies and they were just accustomed to playing by themselves or with the other puppies.

7 weeks is a bit young. Most true breeders don't place their pups until 12 weeks. That could be why he would rather be alone. Or, maybe he is not use to a whole lot of human interaction?

Just a suggestion...socialize, socialize, socialize! These dogs can be a bit aggressive with strangers and they really need to be around as many people as possible..including the groomer :) Get them use to that ASAP...alot of groomers will not even groom a Chow.
Good luck with your pup.

Chows are traditionally a ONE person dog. They can be a good dog, but if you research the breed the are not a beginners dog. That is really young yet. Good Luck.

I guess it's as normal as having a chow-chow.
By the way - you do know how they got their name, right?
