Promoters are responsible in this case, to provide their fighter a decent challenge and to give the fans a good match. Amir Khan makes this proposition a tough one because of a few things. Going in, this wasn't a mis-match in my humble opinion.

First, Khan, who is still just a teenager at 19, needs to get soft, easy fights to build his confidence. Therefore there is a certain group of fighters you have to chose from, which makes it almost a crap shoot. When you pull out opponents from this 'D-' level of guys, there is no way of telling what you are going to get.

A promoter picks a 'name' fighter for a 19-year old prospect and the prospect loses, the promoter is an idiot and wasted his money. A promoter goes to the bottom of the barrel and picks a guy that gets knocked out by a steady wind and Khan doesn't learn anything from the fight and improve. And more importantly, the fans are pissed. The rock and a hard place is evident here for the promoter.

Secondly, 23-year old Ryan Barrett, Khan's recent foe, was 12-2-1 going into the fight and had never been stopped. Picking a guy like Barrett with more experience, on paper, is exactly a perfect fight for Khan, but no way is the promoter resposible for giving the fans a refund for the 5th fight on the undercard, where on paper, Barrett should have given a better account of himself. Going in, this was a typical Amir Khan bout, where his opponent could either take him the distance over 6-rounds or get stopped.

Thirdly, Khan needs to fight no-hopers and build his name and get experience. To be honest, he should still be fighting in the amatuers right now and would be getting better seasoning there it seems.

And if you attended this fight, I hope you enjoyed the pair of world title bouts between Clinton Woods and Glen Johnson along with the Souleymane M'baye versusRaul Balbi. Those were solid fights worth the price of admission alone.

So in short, Khan makes this really tough for a promoter. He is far to young and inexperienced to be fighting any of the big boys yet and yet he is too talented to be fighting guys that fold in 60-seconds...

Don't give up hope on the sport!

It sounds like this guy does not deserve to be a pro fighter and his license supended. Promoters should also be held accountable for such a face and pay back the money to fans right on the spot.
