I sympathize, cleaning poop of any kind is not nice, but cats just seem to win the smell contest hands down..
First of all try feeding them dry food if they are old enough, this will reduce the smell of thier poop dramatically, make sure you change slowly and only add little bits of dry a day untill they are fully over to dry food or it will cause them to have an upset stomach, resulting in more smell!
there are trays you can get that filter the poop into a bottom section of the tray and then you just tie the bag and throw it away. im not sure of the name but im sure if you asked at a pet store they would know, i doubt that they are cheap tho.
The other option would be to have an enclosed litter tray with a hood and a swinging door. much like a catflap. this will ensure that the smell stays inside as much as possible, you can then leave it a few minutes after your cat has gone for most of the fumes to dissapear. you can also get them with carbon filters to absorb the bad odors.
Get a good quality cat litter, it may cost a few pence more but a odour control one will benefit you as it will absorb the nasty niffs.
if they are kittens and you plan to let them outside then you will only have to use it untill they go outside, then maybe just have it there in case of emergency.
if they are going to be housecats then i would advsie you try to move the litter tray to an area of the house that can be aired easily, say, by the back door. then you can shut them in another room and have the door open to take away the smells.
Good luck, it will become easier in time, its just a bit like doing your first Nappy, a few weeks and you dont even notice the smell anymore!

Yes, as cats live even to their upper teens and sometimes 20 or more years.
1. Try cleaning the litter everyday, maybe it won't be so bad. Use a different litter. Maybe it's the litter that makes you sick.
2. You could purchase a litter box that cleans itself. They do make them. A while after the cat goes it automatically cleans it. That way you wouldn't have to smell it.
3. Does someone else live with you? Maybe you could get them to do this job for you and you could do a job for them.
4. I've seen books where you can teach your cat to use the toilet. I have personally never tried it. If the cats are young enough you could consider that.
5. Do you have more than one litter box? Maybe with two cats you need two (of course this would mean cleaning two litter boxes instead of one). I have three cats and three litter boxes. They share them all though.
Good Luck.

You should have more than 1 litter tray. If you have 2 or 3 the smell wont be so intense. If the smell is repugnant to you, then it can't be nice for your cats. How would you like to use a dirty smelly toilet? Ensure the tray(s) are washed out more regularly.

Your local drug store (Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc.) should carry masks that you can wear when cleaning the litter box or vomit. They are similar to the masks that doctors, dentists, etc. wear and usually are secured by loops that go around your ears or an elastic band that goes around your head. They are relatively inexpensive. Be sure to also wash your hands well after cleaning either.
I would also recommend having your vet test a fecal sample on them. They could be carrying some sort of bacteria that's making you sick when dealing with vomit or litter boxes.

This is what I used to do, I bought the air sanitazer and I used to spray it around the litter box prior to changing the litter, then I put some gloves and a mask, I do the cleaning as fast as I could, dispossed of the gloves and sprayed more air sanitizer, give that a try and if it does not work, I would give them away to someone who would be able to handle the situation, the older your cats get the stinkier their poop will be so, .....

Cats don't have to have litter trays, they should be using outside as much as possible., try moving the tray nearer to the back door each day then eventually put it outside

yup- my parents still have a cat that was mine in High school (I'm 34)...they're so worth it- do not "get rid" of them - remember you are their "family" and they would be very traumatized by this. Having a pet is a lifelong commitment which includes keeping them clean, feeding them good food, and paying expensive medical bills. Anyone who is considering adopting a pet should look at all of these issues and see if they are comfortable dealing with them before adopting...

If they are older cats you should try to train them off the litterbox, by moving closer to the door, and putting some soil, so it seems like its outside and then eventually take it away. Most cats usually understand and go outside eventually. It is easier to do this when they are young, so they get used to it.
