What gives certain beers a metallic taste?

Is there any danger if a beer tastes metallic?

It could be cans giving it an odd flavor, hard water used in brewing, or the beer getting exposed to light (if in a bottle). If it's a draft, it could be lousy tap lines.

Regardless, no danger to you, it just doesn't taste so good :-)

Some cans are not coated on the inside, so the acids in the beer actually eat away at it. This won't happen when the cans are lined with plastic.

Another possibility (one I've experienced with home brewed beers) is that the brewer used too much yeast nutrient while brewing. Too much of this will result in a tinny taste.

Are you talking about a specific brand? I've had some beers from England that taste a bit metallic due to the particularly hard water they have there.

In my beer professional capacity, i believe that if a draught beer tastes of metal then there is a problem, if you are talking about canned beer then you only have yourself to blame for buying a inferior substitue, beer brewing is a fine art, it should never touch the sides of a can. regards LF

Killian's Irish Red is in bottles, and the best beer in my opinion. Yes, I know, everyone has their favorite. The Sissie drinks like the lite beers are for the younger generation, who do not appreciate a good beer or ale. They are like drinking water.

Its just the can man dont worry about though if you buy more expensive beer you wont have that problem. unfortunately you realy do get what you pay for.
