A Cemetary Cricket is a member of the Gryllidae family of insects. These insects exhibit the following traits:
1.) Tarsi is flattened sideways and the second joint is minute, or the Tarsi is flattened vertically and the second joint is distinct.

2.) Body is nearly spherical, with swollen hind legs.

3.) The hind Tibiae (lower part of back legs) are spined. One variety has notches in between the spines, another does not.

4.) Wings are not well developed.

5.) All have 6 legs

6.) Males emit a chirping sound by rubbing the file like under surface of the front wing against the rough upper surface of the other wing. Eggs are laid singly on the ground. Back legs are 3 times as long as other legs. Vegetarian species can make good pets. Gryllus species are recommended for this.
