Unfortunately you are right in that about 80% of christians either don't read or don't know the word of God, that is why Jesus told the apostles to pray for workers "for the harvest is great." With many people we don't see who they were before Christ, so we can't fully see the changes that have occured within them. Also, the Apostle Paul talks about feeding the milk of the gospel until we are ready for the real whole foods of Faith and Spirit. the milk being the simple understanding that we have all fallen short of the glory of God and through Christ's sacrifice we are cleansed of our sin, but when we trust in the sacrifice of Jesus--that is asking forgiveness for our trangressions against the One who made us, but then also turning from those things that we do know to be wrong with a desire for righteousness in all things. Now many allow the Holy Spirit to work through them quickly in the beginning but for many others our natural tendency toward rebellion, [or our fleshly desires] because of the sin of Adam, makes it a lifelong process, and then the rest just simply are ignorant and need a shepherd hence the workers reference in the beginning. But ultimately Jesus' main commandment has nothing to do with a specific action, but having an essence of Love--of Selfless Love--as He had for us that He would knowingly and peacefully be beaten, lashed 39 times with a whip tipped with fishbone and metal shards, and then crucified and rise from the dead 3 days later being seen by up to 500 people post resurrection: this Truth being testified to by men who were then boiled in oil, sawn in half, and crucified upside down because they would not deny this.
But I guess the question here is do you think that it's a "bunch of hogwash"? and why. let me know I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have:)
God bless you and guide you safely in His arms.

Boy are you spiritually lost. Jesus did not abolish the ten commandments. Where did you get that from? All those words you mentioned have a spritual meaning that only someone seeking God and Jesus will every be able to grasp. You are using them against God. You cannot use God's word against Him.

Mark 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.
