I have taken medications and they make me unable to function and sometimes very sick, does anyone know what to do or who to talk to about this? My doctors answer is more meds but there has to be a better answer.

If you do not want to or cannot take meds then you need to see a therapist. They would be able to find out what is causing your attacks and different ways to control them.
I have a problem with those attacks but fortunately I can take the medications.

See a counselor. What causes the attacks? Places? People? Events? Situations?
Work thru these with a counselor to lessen their strength.
Also start meditation and yoga. Deep breathing and visualisation.
There are also some good books on panic attacks, and some cities have support groups.

Meds are tough, some cause dependency and are not really going to solve the underlying problem.

I have learned to realize when one is coming on, and now I start a deep breathing exercise-slowly in and out, full deep breaths exhaling and inhaling slowly-if I'm in a position to do so, I close my eyes and picture a beautiful scene in my minds eye and eventually the anxiety will subside and I can get a hold of myself-you are not alone in this problem-many suffer from this and I think it is what triggers some people to lose it. I can't say this will work for you, but give it a try since meds are out ( I think that is a very wise move on your part!) Best of luck to you!

I think it will be take therapy to help you. It seems as if your doctor is not much help on making suggestions. Medications can help but are not always the answer, as you know from your case. See a therapist who "specializes" in this area. You may be surprised how much it can help.

Maybe when you see someone a little more sympathetic you can try medication again. Sometimes maybe a little less than the "recommended dose" can help you.

I get panic attacks in stores and in crowded places. I try to get as close to a wall as possible so I don't see that many people around and then find a focal point to concentrate on until it stops. It doesn't always work. I also try to visualize being someplace that feels familiar and calm.
