Getting hit in the Chest.?

Question

Is it possible to die from getting hit (punched) in the chest?

I know someone has died from getting hit with a softball, but they died from a heart attack. Did the impact trigger the heart attack?

Yeah, it's possible.

Your heart is a muscle that depends on the muscles all beating together in time to pump the blood from chamber to chamber in a regular rythmic way.

Getting a hard thump to the chest could disrupt the heart, and cause the signal to get all thrown off. So instead of it going in a nice 1,2 -1,2 pattern it just goes all jiggly... that is called fibulation (SP?).... Basically the heart stops moving blood, which means it stops getting oxygen back to itself too, that = full on heart attack.

It is possible, but the human body is built to not die from being punched in the chest. In a typical situation you probably won't die from getting hit in the chest.

that happened to an athlete here not so long ago. if you're hit in a very specific place your heart's natural pacing mechanism will be disrupted and the heart will start fibrillating. result, unless there is immediate treatment, is usually death. that case i mentioned has lead to a huge drive to install defibrillators in sporting faciities all around there,

Yes, it's possible, but it would have to be an extremley hard hit.
