I thought it might be interesting to see conflicting sides to this debate. For years, many "christians" have believed that Jesus was apparently a white man. Even groups such as the Nazi's used this "fact" as a discussion point.

Current studies show- that more than likely, Jesus was at the very least of some middle eastern ethnicity- though his faith was Jewish.

Why then, are people still insisting that he is a caucasian?

This is going again to even as the images of Jesus (saws) first got here about. i'm no longer an authority on the problem, yet they did not continuously paint what should be deemed as more effective splendid, they painted what they idea replaced into eye-catching. you are able to also see in a lot of Renaissance artwork of the Virgin Mary (ra), she is draped in fabrics which have Quranic inscriptions on them. Textiles were extensively imported from the middle East and Persia for the time of those circumstances, and they stumbled on them to be truly eye-catching. Mary (ra) not in any respect wore fabrics with Quran, lol, yet they loved them so as it really is what they used.

Back in the day, the people who held high posts in the religious sector (Popes) were basically Anglican. To depict Christ as anything but white would have been considered abhorrent. Today we know differently. Jesus was most likely to share the qualities and likenesses of his Middle Eastern counterparts of today. But it was the "White" man who ruled the church back then, so therefore the GREAT CHRIST had to be white. Sad that people actually think like that, isn't it?

Good question. I'm guessing its because a large majority of Christians are white, and if we were created in God's image (which is the basic idea) then of course we must look like him...leading many people to believe that Jesus was white. I agree with you, though...odds are, Jesus wasn't.

Nobody living has seen Jesus. Not even the artists who draw him. These pictures are based on imagination. You probably are not aware that Buddha was born in Nepal and all his images in India and Nepal show him slim. Look at the Buddha statues in China and Japan. Those are with real big bellies.

European artist painted him as white. It is the same with Buddha. There are different interpretations of Buddha throughout Asia. There is the Indian Buddha, the Chinese Buddha, the Japanese Buddha, etc., etc. They painted Jesus as they saw him, which in Europe was a caucasian.

I've seen pictures of Jesus being black, East Indian. Maybe
that's because I actually hang out with people from other races.

Just like the bible, people's idea of what Jesus looks like is subject to interpolation.

I have seen Jesus depicted as Asian, Black, White, Native American... just depends on what chruch you're in at the time.

For fear of printing politically incorrect Sunday School books back in the days when old folks like me were forced to attend those hallow, cookie throwing institutions.

I think Jesus had darker skin. Why pictures have him white I am not sure.Maybe it just seems that way.But maybe some one should paint a darker colored Jesus and see how people react to it.
