She says she thinks she has had it for at least 17 years. It may be getting worse as time progresses. She tries everything. I also notice she complains alot about having canker sours in her mouth. Could they be related?

It's usually due to gum disease. She needs to floss after every meal and brush her tongue every day.

They have anti halitosis kits with special mouth washes and tooth paste, etc.

If this doesn't help it could be due to post nasal drip or intestinal bowel disease or other problem.

The first question I would ask your friend is when was the last time she has been to the dentist? Halitosis is a sign of gum disease/plaque/cavities. Sometimes its even a sign of something worse than that, something else going on in her body that is creating extra gasses that it might not normally produce in such a quantity. 17 years is a really long time for this to be a problem and not have a doctor look at it. How are her teeth?

Canker sores are often caused by sugar, eating too much of it. If she is eating/drinking a lot of sugary foods or drinks, chances are she has cavities. Tell her to go to the dentist ASAP. He or she will be the only one to tell her for sure what her problem is and get her on the right track for fixing it.

She need to get this checked. It may not only be gum disease but something much worse. Everyone has bad breath from time to time but on going is not something to shove your nose in the air about.

get her teeth cleaned more often, floss and floss and get it really deep down in there, drink lots of water, dehydration causes/contributes to halitosis
