I have read somewhere that it is better not to drink while eating to avoid putting on weight. Instead, one should drink either before or after drinking, or both. Is there any truth to that? If yes, does it make a big difference? Thanks!

I do not mean drinking alcohol, I mean drinking any liquid, in general.

I'm familiar with the theory. There is some logic to it, but it hasn't been proven conclusively. Imagine putting acid in a glass and dropping in a piece of meat. It obviously won't break it down as efficiently if you dilute it with water.
So while I don't think sipping on a glass of water, tea, whatever, during a meal is a bad thing, I make it a practice not to drink large amounts except between meals as you indicated. The theory is that fluids dilute the digestive juices so they don't break down food efficiently...leading to weight gain and other health problems.

It doesnt make any difference. Really.
The glass of water before hand makes no difference too, by the time you have eaten your dinner the water would have long left the stomach so you will be just as hungry as if you didnt drink it.
My advice is to eat healthy, try not to get obsessive about food and enjoy it. Just excercise and dont binge eat and you will loose weight.
The question you asked makes me think you may be getting obsesive and neurotic about food. This will only lead to an emotional relationship with it that could lead to moments of crash diets and binge eating.
Eat healthy, excercise and dont make it such a big part of your life. Your digestive system is not made of glass, dont mummy it like it is.

I have heard that this is good and bad. Drinking while eating interferes with food digestion, but drinking just before a meal is supposed to help those dieting as it makes them feel more full so they don't overindulge. I doubt it makes a big difference otherwise there would be one clear answer! I wouldn't have fizzy drinks around mealtimes though.

Apparently it is bad to drink while eating, I seen on "You are What You Eat" that you should drink a glass of water a half an hour before your dinner. I think it slows down digestion if you drink while you eat!

Yes as drinking dilutes all the vitamins and minerals in the food....Drink a glass of water half an hour before eating then another one half an hour after eating. xx

drinking before a meal would make you feel full and therefore probably eat less. This is often used as a diet tool. Water is generally the best.

I was told that it is not good to drink too much with a meal because it dilutes your stomach acid which digests the meal.
I'm not sure about the glass before the dinner... I know that's a weight loss tool...

Drinking with a meal is recommended by Doctors to avoid damage to your intestines, as it helps the lubrication of the food to flow through. Water is best.

Yes, it is better NOT to eat while drinking.... It will add extra pounds... each bottle of beer(not light beer) contains 105 Calories.... times that by the number of beers/drinks you have, plus, say a 2000 calories a day diet.... it will add up... always eat before you drink....

There are those who say that drinking wine while eating helps with digestion.
This is a fad/myth.
The person who came up with this notion is obviously an alcoholic.
