Average highs in the upper 80s, average lows around 70. Not too much in the way of storms unless you get a hurricane this time of year. Gentle rain on the windward side of mountains, pretty darn sunny on the south and west sides. Surf transitioning from south shores to north, not terribly spectacular this time of year.

Wait until November to see humpback whales.

Things to do on Maui now:

See 'ulalena in Lahaina and stay at my favorite hotel, the Makai Inn.

Drive up Haleakala for sunrise. Try to avoid running over the crazy cyclists who are going downhill for 10,000 feet over 38 miles.

Visit Maui Ocean Center in Maalaea. Observe scorch marks from recent brush fire in that area.

Survive the Road to Hana.

Go see a slack key concert at the Ritz in Kapalua.

Visit a working sugar mill and museum in Puunene.

Kiteboarding, windsurfing, parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, sailing, sunbathing...

Having been a tour guide in Hawaii, & living on Maui for 31 years.
I answer the question about weather one way.

If you do not like the weather where your at? There are 2 things you can do to change it. Wait a half hour or go a half mile down the road. For the weather is constantly change each day, each hour.
Of course each Island has a wet and dry side. Dry does not mean no rain, just a lot less.
On Maui there are areas that get over 200 inches a year, and area that get 2/3 inches a year.

This time of years on the West side you well have beautiful Rainbows nearly every afternoon. What casues of Rainbow?

I also tell each vistor, We never have a bad day on Maui, some are just better than others.

Sept. hot & humid, Oct., Nov., Dec., excellent & significantly less tourists, airfares & hotels are less expensive until Christmas, so you have the whole island to yourself.
