Because religions are by their nature absolutely intolerant of any belief system that disputes or is contrary to their own. Religious people are immensely invested in believing themselves to be correct, as they think their destiny in the next world depends on it. They therefore cannot tolerate and often seek to exterminate all opposing points of view. It's fairly basic human nature.

Human history proves that man has a dual nature; one good and one evil. Some wars have been cloaked in "religious intent" but many others had little to do with any religion. World War I was not about religion nor was World War II. All wars are about one or more groups or nations trying to get something out of other people. When that occurs, other people must stop them, by force if neccessary.
Let me ask you something; if there was a wild man driving through your city and running down folks don't you think he should be stopped immediately? There are only two choices, Stop him or let him continue killing. Either way someone will die; even innocent people but it is the nut who brought it on not religion.

this is in answer more to the people anwering your question. sorry for stepping in, but i just thought they were msinforming you by saying it wasnt religious .I am a christian and i think that if you read your bible you will find that there were horrific bloody savage wars fought in the name of god. ordered by god. if this is not religious i don't know what is. People stop trying to make Christianity what you want it to look like. maybe it is different now, maybe not but don't put blinders on and dont give someone who takes the time to use this religion/spirituality venue for insight shut them down with such misinformation. in the old testament of the bible, and i am not saying this is how god handles things today, but perhaps it has given people a perception, anyway, god would try and try to redeem and rescue his people, then he would beg them to repent and when they wouldn't' sometimes he would wipe out nations. i look at it like if he still works things out in this fashion then we the united states could really stand or hit our knees and do some praying right about now for forgiveness about our materialistic ways and get back to what our forefathers had in mind. and pray that we might find some peace with other nations as well. god bless America is fine and all but wouldn't that be great if he blessed all the nations then there would be no more war. in the beginning was the word. the truth shall set you free.i agree in the name og god give me a break. kind of like how money has in god we trust on it and look what money buys. what a joke. but i dont think we should take in god we trust off of money i just think we need to pay more attention to what we are saying and doing or trying to

I guess its because we need to blame it on someone - right? Acutally some of the wars back in Bible times were demanded by God to purge all evil from his presence. God is a holy God and he demands that we be holy. Sometimes God requires us to go to battle to get rid of enemies that would want to destroy all the good things that God has given us and to destroy the enemies who are against God. We are told to stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves, we are told to do what is just and honorable to all men as well as to purge the evil in our lands. God can't bless us when we are practicing the lifestyles of people who hate God. So yes, many of the wars are done in the Name of God. And there are times when this phrase is completely wrong because of the motives and the heart intentions behind it. If God ordains it, the outcome will the let enemy be destroyed. But if God doesn't ordain it, then God is the avenger of those people who disobeyed.

Easy, religion is man made, man is greedy, he tries to control those around him, man has taken the bible, and other so called holy books, and used it's content against the will of God to do man's dirty work, and then says it's in God's name.
God gave us free will, and what a mess we have made of this place, and then you get people asking God to put it right, or stop the killings, why should he, we chose the way we should clean up our own mess.
And to add remember MAN wrote the bible and ALL the other holy books, NOT God

Doing something/anything for personal gain (In God's Name) isn't anything new. If you can convince enough people that God gave you a vision/mission.....you can get them to do anything. Look at the Jehovah Witnesses or the Church of Mormon. Both are knock-off's of Christianity with human twists and additions. Both founded by a single man...and still practiced today.

Religion is the tool of people to control others. It is supposed to be a tool for pointing people to spiritual enlightenment but people get out of control and use it for personal and selfish reasons. When people find the meaning behind the religion they tend to not fight and use it for the benefit of themselves and others. Shoalin monks are a good example of such. They only learned to fight as a means to protect their lives from bandits over 1000 years ago. They don't use their world class fighting abilities for conquest or glory. They use it as a way to show the benefits of their discipline and to encourage others to explore what they have to offer. They do not use it to force other to "join or die" as so many other religions have done throughout time.

It's the people in charge using religion to control the masses. That is what religion is all about . "control.
Even the Muslim terrorist are led and trained by hateful old men who dispose women and freedom and will do anything to exercise their will over others.
For centuries the faithful were led by preachers, clerics, or other fanatics(they are all the same) or by rulers who control ed them to maintain their control
