My best friend, my dog, died of old age. I usually just go to pieces when I lose a pet but this time I didn't. Is it because I am on prozac?? I feel like a robot with no emotions and I don't think its right. Has anyone gone through this???

I sit and look at her grave and relive her death over and over but I just don't have tears. This almost angers me because I loved her so much and I should feel SOMETHING--I am so afraid that prozac has just numbed me into being a zombie.

Yes.. perhaps prozac... It will hit you though sooner or later. The loss of a loved one is horrific or so it has been with me.. I feel so guilty and yet I know (as you know) you have given the loved pet a good life and you have to get it in your mind that the loved pet knows that you gave your pet your best.

There may several reasons you aren't crying. Rather than focusing on that, do something to help lift the weight from your heart. Post photos of your dog, remember a favorite, special moment, give pillows or blankets to a shelter, volunteer at a shelter or the vet clinic you used to take your dog to. Do something to honor your dog and all the wonderful memories you two shared.
Suddenly, it won't matter whether the tears fall.

My dog, whom I've had since i was 3, also died a few years ago(I was 16 when she died) and I didn't cry or feel a thing. I'm not very emotional though, I doubt I would be sad if any of my family died.

Yes. I am on Prozac and I feel the exact same way. I have put on sad songs to try to cry. Won't help. I am about ready to flush the drug.

There are several things going on. You say your dog was very old so perhaps she suffered and you recognize that it was a mercy for her to go. You could also experience a delayed reaction at a later time. People react in different ways. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Yes, the medicine can affect you like that. You might want to check with your psychiatrist to see if maybe you should be on a different medication.
