first place? A piece of paradise can be destroyed by too many people, too much construction, natural beauty sacrificed for commercial buildings, hotels, etc. Is it worth it? Would Hawaiians have been happier if they had been left alone to live on those islands without interference from people from the USA and other countries? (HI, not long ago, was not a state of the USA)

Witch two- I'm sure they have managed well. How much nicer, though, would the islands of Hawaii be if there were more natural, tropical beauty like it once had instead of so many hotels, businesses, paved roads and parking lots? There are some islands that have fought off mass tourism. How are they faring without it?

You make it sound like they haven't managed their resources and tourism. They make a lot of money off tourists, they have managed the industy they embraces so that they benefit from it without it over taking their natural resources. Nothing has been destroyed in Hawaii, natural habitats and their culture abound.
