Julius Caesar, by all standards a successful politician and general, obviously had quite a superior amount of intelligence compared to most of the roman population. He did not believe that the god's controlled his fate BUT...he would tell his soldiers that before battle and that if they had bravery the gods would protect them. Of course the Roman soldiers had 'faith' in the gods..something pushed into their minds as a good thing but only really something that meant 'do what I tell you w/o having a reason'. So...Julius Caesar was a very good gerneral b/c his troops charged bravely into the enemy lines 'knowing' and 'feeling' the gods' protection. Eventually, science advanced far enough to prove that there was no Zeus in the clouds or Gods on top of Mt. Olympus but the Roman soldiers that died at the hands of the enemy didn't know that, did they?...see! religion is not always a bad thing. Controlling the weak-minded and pushing forward the strong is the sole purpous of it's existence. :)

Yes thats what the simple minded thinks, but there are not any dead atheist are there???You have to remember the roman solider had a better chance of surving the emeny he was fighting than Julius Caesar who would have him executed in other words "rule from the barrell of the gun" has always gotten positive results for the leaders// It was discovered that Juluis Caesar was a mofidite (with both male and female) sex organs which caused him to have a inferiority complex and he felt that driving his troops would balance this complex this was destroying his empire which eventually fell and as we all know is history// The roman goverment finally embraced Christianity about 350 AD and the Catholic church was accepted as the offical religion, which means universal church the world over// So what Julius Caesar did was to actually spread the word of Christianity by the introduction of his pagan gods/// The result since that are schools ,hospitals, the moral law of mankind so actually reliegion has been harnessed by these institutions because the relegious community wanted to help mankind --- Juluis Casesar was not a person with a very high level of intelligence , but thought he was and his officers often flattered him before the public to retain their positions in the roman empire and this was also one of the causes the roman empire fell--there is an old Roman saying that Cornealis Fattius (one of his top generals) stated to Casear after a defeat in the english forrest "the truth will set you free but 1st it will make u miserable" this caused Juluis embrassment and coupled with his inferior complex had him put to death before a group of high ranking army officers.. I think this would be compelling and all this finally had its toll //// I suggest to at least look over the following material its very intresting and i believe you will find it enlighting---

Why do so many of my fellow Christians HAVE to try and judge those who don't believe? Come on, remember that thing called Free Will? Usually I avoid questions like this, but I'm fed up with this senseless battle between people who should know better, every time there is a posting like this it only serves to prove the other side of the debate right! Give it up already, okay? A real Christian does not judge NOR try to force anyone else to see their point of view, no wonder so many people have lost faith in Religion!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A better master of this psychology of belief in protection would instill a surer and bolder sense of self-belief. There are no Gods on Olympus, there is no deity to entrust - science has proved this. What you speak about was a long, long time ago and potentially believable at the time. But we have moved on (or at least some of us have).
I would question how much gravitas such a propostion would have today.
We only have ourselves to blame, celebrate and believe in.

Atheists destroying religion? I think you will find that religion is doing a great job in destroying itself. If religious people stopped killing innocent human beings and stopped telling lies, the world would become a lot safer and happier for everyone.
Who on Earth told you that God exists?
Did your parents tell you that God existed, or your teacher, or preacher, or did you read it in the Bible, or did you just wake up one day and discovered God existed?
Science doesn’t know yet if the universe was created or not. However, if we assume the universe was created, then it’s reasonable to assume there was a creator. That’s as far as science has progressed today. Some of the best brains in the world just don’t know.
Religious people don’t say we hope God exists, and we hope God is good, they state that God definitely does exist and then go on to provide a whole list of supporting evidence they call facts. So if science doesn’t accept religious evidence that God exists, when did you first realise God existed and what supporting evidence do you have if any?
Religious people should stop telling lies, and learn to admit the truth. Religious people don’t know if God exists, they only hope that God exists and the rest of their so called supporting evidence of God’s existence is nothing more than man-made speculative conjecture and wishful thinking – commonly referred to as lies.

Ok so you are about to embark on a fight in which you might get out alive; it is typical to encourage the people, to allow them and help them face their deaths and fear to suggest that someone is looking out for them. Its called manipulation of the masses. This is a basic psychological principal. You are only aiming to get a religious spin when infact this manipulation and encouragement is an everyday occurrence devoid of only religious attachment.

Only because you think so.
You weren't at any Roman battles so all your statements about soldiers "knowing" and "feeling" god's protection" are speculation on your part.

There are two basic roads to power, the high road (honest efforts), or the low road (chicanery). We prefer to pisss downhill instead of wear funny hats.
