i am an immigrant and i can tell you that we want to keep our culture alive even though we're nowhere near it. we want our kids to speak the more than one language, is that so wrong? yes, it's true that sometimes we'll talk about things we don't want others to hear in another language, but that's just because we want privacy, nothing else. same reason why you lower your voice if you don't want others to hear what you're saying.

It's much easier for them to speak their native language than to learn English, which is one of the most difficult languages to learn. Most immigrants to the States have done the same thing--in their homes. Many kids would go to school and learn English and come home and teach it to their parents. Speaking a native language in one's home is not a bad thing so long as they learn to speak English when outside the home to those who are not of their culture.

They will, until they learn English. And sometimes they just speak their own language, so you don't understand. I am sure it would be just like you going to some other country and you speaking English and they not understanding you. So, it is six of one and a half dozen of the other. God Bless.

What's wrong with not totally assimilating to the American culture. I'm Mexican-American and speak English & Spanish. What's wrong with keeping a part of your culture...I'm not just American, but I'm Mexican too...
also, it's spelled immigrants, and there's a difference between "too" and "to"...... maybe you should learn spell in your own language before criticizing others.....*sigh*

Would you teach them English? Because you can't spell and your grammar is quite bad.
Immagrants - Immigrants
There - Their
Too - To

How ironic that you are concerned about foreigners speaking in their native language when you are unable to even write/spell in English.

I think it would be safe to assume that it is the same reason why people do a lot of things...because it is familiar to them. Speaking their native tongues allows immigrants to retain a piece of their native land.

To force the US to adjust to THEIR LANGUAGE. Press 1 for English etc.
They have no intention of learning English since they can force everyone to kowtow to spanish.

matt, work on your english...its "their" language, not there language...when i went to mexico, i worked hard to learn some spanish, i thought it was the right thing to do....its rude and insulting not to speak the language of the country u r in....people who came here in the 1930's worked hard and fast to learn...we cater to people now, this makes excuses for laziness
