during the past 3 weeks i have been going through really short and depressive changes. 1 week i'll weigh 110 (i'm 5'7 by the way) and i won't eat. i don't eat because i feel fat. i have anorexia but i'm not being treated. the second week i'll drop too 100 and not eat ANYTHING. just fast for 5-7 days, when i fast i feel good. not eating makes me feel good and i get really thin but i don't feel thin enough. i want to know when am i going to feel better about myself? when am i going to like myself and accept how i look? after these thoughts.. i start eating getting up to the 130's. because 130 is alot (to me) i started to fast again and the cycle continues. i cant take it anymore, it's been going on for 6-8 months and i dont know how i would be able to survive if i didnt think about calories, food, weight. i practically know the caloric amount of any food. what should i do? maybe i should just go into recovery? but i dont want to gain weight. i'll hate myself even more.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been struggling. :( I think it would be VERY important to see a therapist and psychiatrist to help you with both the depression and the anorexia. You shouldn't have to feel this way.

A doctor will not MAKE you gain weight. He will certainly recommend it, but you are the one who will have to make the changes by choosing to enter treatment. I think it's still worth going to make sure that you're medically stable, and to get started on an antidepressant.

At minimum, it would be good for you to have some support by seeing a therapist (ED specialist) and an MD. A nutritionist and support group would also be helpful, but may feel like too much for you all at once. Your weight is also low enough that inpatient or day treatment would be helpful, but it doesn't sounds like you're ready yet.

Hang in there. Get some support---at whatever level you're comfortable with.
Here's a link to find therapists, nutritionists, groups, inpatient treatment, etc. for ED's.

Good luck! You shouldn't have to be in so much pain.

130 lbs for you would probably look healthier than the 100-110lbs you fast to achieve. I think that we in this society have glamorized the Crank-Head-Skinny look, and it's too thin. I would get help, cause you don't want to gain weight, but do you want to have a malnutrition issue, and the health problems that come with that?

This is a life-threatening condition, and you should get medical/psychiatric help. Even if you don't starve yourself down to nothing and die (like Karen Carpenter), this is very hard on your system, with these dangerous changes in food amounts. You might permanently damage your body, heart, reproductive system, stomach, who knows? It's also a progressive disease, and it will only get worse if you don't stop it now. Movie star Sandra Dee starved herself as a young teen to stay thin in her films, then suffered a life of miscarriages, medical and emotional problems, and died an early, painful death because of this ailment.

I would say that yes, you do have problems.. 5'7" and ONLY 110 is not right.. you should weigh more.. more like 160 or so. If you have not been under a doctor's care, you should be and NOT try to tackle the situation on your own.

You should really talk to someone you trust and your doctor about this. Anorexia is an illness that, if continued, can be life-threatening. There is help out there for you if you want it.
