first, dont choose cameras for their brands. brands do have a bit of influence, but not that much. anyways, ive dont know that much about canon's consumer line. panasonic's pv-gs consumer line is great because it offers 3ccd and manual controls for a consumer price. in the prosumer range, canon wins, with the gl and xl series. panasonic has several prosumer cams, but the one that sets it apart from other cams is the dvx-100a. hope this helps!

if u gonna buy the camcorder Canon is the best but mostly alitle heavyer than other brand .
n stick with mini dv-cam is way better than dvd-cam
usualy dvd-cam is have more erro problem.
