An INEFFECTIVE Agency??

I Believe It Is Ineffective

If You Had A Choice
Would You Consider
Liquidating The US Border Patrol
And Charge Border (And Port) Security
To The National Guard ??

Current Border Patrol Agents
Could Become Ranking Guardsmen
During The Transition
And Maintain Their Rank And Position As A Career Move

Any Thoughts On An Idea Like This ??

The Border Patrol is an ineffective agency because the bureaucratic idiots have tied their hands and refused to give them the numbers that they need to work. The bureaucrats don't want them to work, JD. We need to replace the defective politicians we have now with some that will do what's right for America!

From someone who deals with Customs and Border Protection on a regular basis (I am a cross-border truck driver), I can say it would not be a good idea. The respective roles of the Border Patrol and the National Guard are not the same and they are trained differently in order for them both to be the most effective possible in the jobs they have to do.

You also forget that the National Guard is not a full-time force. You would need, according to your idea, to integrate the Border Patrol to the U.S.Army to achieve what you seek.

Bush has allotted 6000 National guards to the border ,but as of today they are not in place This was supposed to happen last month. The present BP would be better if the Justice Dept.wouldn't protect criminals as they did in the El Paso case where 2 agents are being tried for the crime of catching a known Mexican drug dealer and his load of drugs ,but the Justice Dept gave the drug dealer immunity to testify about the 2 agents because his crooked azz got shot.Wrong, you cant do you job with your hands tied.

I like your idea and yes Id support it. I think the Border Patrol is doing a good job but severly under staffed. In my opinion, illegal immigration is as much a threat to national security as radical Islam is.
I am a staunch conservative and I support Bush on "most" issues but this is one that I am very disappointed and angry about. President Bush seems to be a great friend to illegal immigrants. Our President really has done nothing to even slow the invasion of illegal immigrants and frankly, I infuriated by this. God forbid if the Democrats win the Oval Office in 08. If that happens we may as well all start speaking Spanish.

The border patrol do a fine job for the few officers they have.
One officer guarding 100 miles of border just does not work against groups of armed men.

Bad idea, build the wall, the Boarder Patrol is already infiltrated by the drug lords people. Better yet, a force field may be necessary.

That could make it more effective. The National Guard should have the right to shoot anyone who runs from them no matter which directions they're running. Shouldn't it be a FELONY to evade a FEDERAL official in the attempt to commit a criminal act [illegal entry]?

JD in San Diego they don't even arrest them they find them a place to live, they are useless here, no matter who they put on the border they would still get the order from the top and immigration to do nothing.

Yes, its the morons that run it....

For example, this year alone, more than 146,000 immigrants from countries other than Mexico (known as "Other than Mexicans" or OTMs) have illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border. Due to our disjointed "catch and release" policy and perceived lack of detention space, the Border Patrol is required to release these individuals into our country with nothing more than a paper notice requiring them to return for a future hearing. Of course, that notice is almost universally ignored. I would never blame the guys on the front line, there hands are tied by the bureaucracy! I just think we need better leaders running the BP!
