i have a stepper motor with 4 wires . red , orange, yellow , brown,

The label on top says something like this

but I went through the shinano kenshi product web site but couldnt find the specs or the catalogue for this model STH - 55D007-03

Plz need some help

What you probably have is a 12VDC stepper...you can determine the current rating from the coil winding resistance (36 ohms) and the rated voltage (12VDC) by applying Ohm's Law (V=iR), or in this specific case 12=36 X i , i=1/3 amp, or ~333 mA. Don't exceed the current rating or you'll risk frying the coils. If the motor happens to be rated at 120V, then it's an AC stepper, and the calculation will be different for current. If you think it's an AC stepper, email me and I'll show you how to find current rating, but I'm almost certain that you have a 12VDC motor.

You need a stepper motor driver chip to run the motor. Stepper motors have two windings, and the current throught those windings are square waves, with a phase difference between the two. Stepper motor drivers are readily available from electronic supply houses. You do need to verify the voltage and current rating of your motor. You might try to look into a motor supply site on line to see if anyone carries that motor and they will have the basic specs, Also, Google the model no. and see what comes up.

You will also need to know the wiring of the windings: which wire goes to which winding. It is easy to separate the winding leads with an ohmmeter, since the windings are not connected to each other, so if you get an ohm reading across two wires, those wires go to the same winding, What you don't know, however, is the direction of current flow. If you can find a stepper driver and can separate the windings, experimenting by hooking it up and see if it runs. if it doesn't, reverse the leads on one of the windings.

Since there are only 4 wires. There are two wires for one winding and 2 wires for the other winding. So this is a bipolar stepper motor. Just measure the resistance, two wires should be connected to each other, but not the other two.

Then look up the specs for similar sized motors and match the resistance to get an idea of the voltage for this motor. Like the one writer said you will need an H-Bridge drive for this motor.
