I though it might be an idea to use a respected British dictionary to give the correct definition, it is our language afterall ;-)
Heathen :(adj) (of people or their way of life, activities and ideas) having no religion, or belonging to a religion that is not Christianity, Judaism or Islam
Atheist : (n) someone who believes that god or gods do not exist
I myself am and atheist, but to be classed as a heathen is to some people offensive and derogatory. Christians often brand us as being heathens but there are several different meanings to the word depending on your religious outlook and understanding of the origins of the word.
I have included an article regarding heathens and its quite an interesting read.

Heathen has the top comparable etymology, different than for Germanic Language international locations, fairly than Latin derived ones. It meant in basic terms the rustic persons, the dwellers on the heath, the final to transform to Christianity. Now, with neo pagan communities, like the Asatru, attempting to reclaim the polytheistic direction, heathen ability particularly, people who stick to Celtic, Teutonic or Norse pantheons. Atheists are people who lack a concept in any form of God or Gods. Agnostic is term coined with the help of Thomas Henry Huxley interior the overdue nineteenth century. indexed right here are his very own words on the project. Thomas Henry Huxley reported, "Agnosticism isn't a creed yet a manner, the essence of which lies interior the lively application of a unmarried concept ...easily the thought could be expressed as in concerns of mind, do no longer fake conclusions are particular which at the instant are not shown or demonstrable" Huxley additionally wrote in “Agnosticism and Christianity”: I further say that Agnosticism isn't right defined as a “unfavorable” creed, nor certainly as a creed of any sort, different than in so a techniques because it expresses absolute faith interior the validity of a concept, that's as lots ethical as psychological. This concept could be reported in countless techniques, yet all of them volume to this: that that's incorrect for a guy to declare he's for particular of the point actuality of a proposition except he can produce data which logically justifies that fact. that's what agnosticism asserts and, in my opinion, is all that is mandatory to agnosticism. for this reason agnosticism is a concept fairly than a place.

Being christened is when the parents dedicate the child back to God. And that has nothing to do with an atheist (not believing in GOD @ all) and being a heathen (not obeying GOD and knowing the consequences).Try gettting a Strong's Concordance Bible Dictionary, they are great!

heathen
1. an unconverted individual of a people that do not acknowledge the God of the Bible; a person who is neither a Jew, Christian, nor Muslim; pagan.
2. an irreligious, uncultured, or uncivilized person.
It's clear to me that self-righteous monotheists use the term "heathen" to mean anyone that doesn't agree with their belief in the God of the Hebrew bible.
I am certainly irreligious, but I am civilized and cultured (educated), and I have reached my disbelief in the God of the Hebrew bible through careful study and reasoning. So, if you only consider the first defition above, I might be considered a heathen, but but the 2nd definiton, I am clearly not a heathen.
Of course, I expect some self-righteous theists reading this will disagree and think that I am a heathen. If so, that's their problem, not mine.

no. A heathen has perhaps never heard about God. An athiest has made a decision to not believe what he thinks he knows about, like he is taking a stan on an issue. The Lord chasten those he loves so perhaps that fits in there somewhere.

A heathen doesn't believe in the xian god, an atheist doesn't beleive in any god. So a muslim can be a heathen, but he can't be an atheist.
And an atheist is always a heathen, but a heathen is only sometimes an atheist.

There is a difference. An athiest does not believe in any God, while a heathen does not believe in the specific God, but might believe in another God.
For example, a Christian might call a heathen anyone who is gay for example yet believes in God.

atheist does not believe in a god and heathen is a name or label christians like to call them, this display of selfrighteous hypocrisy by those who are supposed to love their enenies and not comit the deadliest sins of pride and wrath serve to validate ones non belief in god as,some tend to see religion as a form of control and a way to make closed minded confused people feel morally superior to the rest of the world, while this is just one perspective and not a main reason others choose atheism it is a reason none the less, that drives people away from churches
