Looking for a good southern sweet tea recipe. I thought southern sweet tea was the same as sweetened iced tea at home and found out that they really aren't the same. I'd love to try and make some for my boyfriend but wanted to see if any of you true southern's had a good recipe you were willing to share? I will be more than happy to share a recipe back! :)

I'm a sweet tea addict,here's my 2 recipes,
to make a gallon:

6 regular size teabags,Lipton or what ever you like
put in a sauce pan with about 2 cups of water
bring to a boil, let boil for about 3 minutes
cut of heat.
*****
pour sugar 1 1/2-cup, into empty gallon container.
*****
pour the hot tea onto sugar, mix together til looks like syrup
*****
run cold water over tea bags left in sauce pan and squeeze the tea bags and throw away, pour remaining tea water into the gallon, pour cold water to the brim of jar, and stir.let chill,or pour over ice

quick tea:
do everything as the recipe above, except put the 6 teabags in a class microwave dish
with 2 cups of water ,5mins,

I live in Georgia and my grandmother taught me to make tea and everyone I know makes it this way. Put 2 family size tea bags (or 6 regular) in a 2qt. pot almost full of water. Bring the water/tea to a rolling boil. Take off the heat as soon as it starts boiling or your tea bags may bust. In a 1 gallon jug/pitcher add 1 and 1/2 cups of sugar up to 1 and 3/4 depending on how sweet you like it....we all use a cup and 1/2 though. Pour tea over the sugar, add the tea and stir until all the sugar is completley dissolved. Add enough cold water to this to fill the gallon container completly.
Just a note though, me and several family members just cannot stand hot tea. I like "day old" tea. I make it at night and refriderate over night and it is soooo much better the next day. A gallon of tea if it lasts will keep in the fridge for 3 days.
Hope it helps.

Southern Sweet Tea:

6 cups boiling water
4 family-size tea bags
1 to 1 1/2 cups sugar

Pour boiling water over tea bags; cover and steep 5 minutes. Stir in 1 to 1 1/2 cups sugar. Pour into a 1-gallon pitcher, and add enough water to fill pitcher. Serve over ice in glasses. Add a lemon slice or mint sprig to each serving, if desired.

Yield: Makes 1 gallon

Make a simple syrup to sweeten your tea, it makes it taste so much better and taste like southern sweet tea. Also makes great lemonade. Make a large batch and store in an airtight container in the fridge, if it crystallizes like honey, just stick it into the microwave for a few seconds at a time and stir.

Simple Syrup
1cup of water
1cup of sugar
Melt sugar and water together in sauce pan until consistency becomes like watered down maple syrup. After you have your tea brewed just fill the the rest of the pitcher with the simple syrup.

I just boil water and then pour it over 2 family-size tea bags. Add sugar to taste.

I grew up making sweet tea.....use tea grounds, not tea bags. Boil grounds in med. saucepan full of water for aprx. 15min.....put one to two cups of sugar in bottom of your tea jar or pitcher (you decide on how sweet you want it) poor boiled tea into pitcher over a tea strainer...stir and chill over poor over ice cubes...add lemon or not.....the difference between the tea grounds and the bags is amazing..

The secret is to put the sugar in while the tea is hot so more sugar gets absorbed.
