I belive they do both at once. That is why bird poop is so runny.

I think that the mechanics of it have already been explained to you (what should really freak you out is that they urinate, defecate and mate through the same orifice), but to illustrate the difference for you, I need you to go back to your childhood and turn the black leather pad of the swing back over.

The white part that you see so much of is uric acid. It isn't healthy for a bird to produce as much of this as wild birds tend to, but their diets aren't consistent, and that's the way that nature treats some animals. In a lucky shot like the one on the swing in our scenario, however, there are hard black bits coiled around the splatter. That's the poop, right there.

Now you probably hate me because you know something that will sicken you almost everywhere you go for the rest of your life.

Urination and defecation are not opposites, and birds do both.

No.Unlike mammals, which excrete waste fluid as urine and solid waste as feces, birds mix both liquid waste and solid waste into the white paste you see as bird droppings. The only exception is the ostrich, which has a urinary bladder.

In birds, droppings are composed of three elements: feces, urates and urine. The droppings are stored in the cloaca, the common emptying chamber for the gastrointestinal, urinary and reproductive tract.

Feces are produced in the intestinal tract and are normally green or brown in color.

Urine and urates are produced in the kidneys.
