We had the very same thing happen except it was for three months - me in Vermont him back west spending three months in a military school and spending time with his family. I am glad he went as his beloved grandmother died shortly after he returned home - he got some wonderful time with her before she passed away. TDY sucks for those of us at home but we have to cope with it or get divorced as the job comes first. See if maybe time will allow you to join him for a short visit or plan a visit with all of you in the foreseeable future. It sounds like a touch of homesickness - we all get it. I don't care how many years we move around, home always calls to us. Accept how you feel and don't beat yourself up for it. Try to think of some positive actions you can take now or later down the road. It will also help to either work or get involved with your community to build a support network where you are stationed - it helps the coping with the time apart.

He could be somewhere alot worse... Be happy that he is safe, and tell him to have a good time. By the way, why is it again that you can't go with? If your family is there, you should be able to stay with them. Are you in the military too?

Why dont you just buy a ticket and fly there, or you could drive, or take advantage of cheap military flights... he'll be there for 3 weeks...take a vacation. stopbeing bitter about it and do something and if not just get over it
