THIS IS A VERY CONTRIVERSIAL SUBJECT WITH MANY PEOPLE.
I feed mine the raw diet, and i also feed all of my leftovers to my dogs. I have done this for 10 years and my dogs are as healthy as they can be. I do not have to go to the vet except for their shots and normal wormings.
Some people have told you it is because the people food are filled with fatty acids, grease, salt and etc that is not good for your dogs, well if you do the research on dog foods they have salt, left over restaurant grease, chicken by=products, whick is chicken beaks feet and etc, even the feathers. dog food also has rendered euthanized diseased livestock and euthanized cats and dogs, so if people food is so bad for our dogs, the dog food is not good either. There are good dog foods like canidae, innova, wellness, solid gold, california natural, but the brands u buy at the grocery store or farm supply are crap and have nothing but corn and by products in them, this includes the famous vet recommended science diet and eukanuba.
Giving too much people food can cause pancreitis in mostly small dogs if fed too much and their system is not use to it. I have always fed my small dogs this from the time they were puppies and never have any problems.

the above website is a good website on what not to feed and majority of people foods are good to give if processed right.

if people food is really so bad on dogs then why are the junk that is not fit for human consumption put into dog food??? I have seen dogs get pancreitis from dog food.

Hello,
Well... It can cause Diarrhea and Vomiting, (but not always) this can and often does lead to death due to dehydration. They need the best quality Dog food you can get. I do suggest "Pedigree" or "Purina Dog Foods", but the best to feed is not found at your Supermarket.. DO NOT feed a cheap Dog Food as this will cost you more in Vet Bills in the long run.
Another good reason for not feeding People food is it can cause Obesity which in turn will shorten your dogs life. This is called "Killing you Dog with Kindness". How ever much Fat they have on the outside, is how much Fat they have around their Vital Organs, like the Heart, Lungs and Liver. If you must feed people food, make it no fat raw Meats, fresh Veggies, and fruits (Not Grapes, Raisins, Onions, or Chocolate as all these are Poisonous to Dogs.)
String Beans, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Carrots, Raw or steamed, are very good for dogs, and can be added to their Dog food and will add to their health. Dogs are not strictly Meat eaters, they are Omnivores, which is both meat and Veggies and fruits.
My Dogs all like all the Veggies I just mentioned and Bananas and Watermelons and cantaloupe. All these are non Fattening.
So please, Do Not feed your dog People food off the Table! Be select at what you feed in conjunction with their Kibble.
God Bless

They'll be eating too many calories, and get fat. Also, like chocolate, is VERY bad for dogs. That is why there is dog food. It has the right calories for dogs, rather they are young and active or old and not so active. Also, it is not good for dogs to chew on steak bones, because of splinters that could get caught into their throats. Human food is meant for humans.

A lot of reasons. They don't need the extra calories because they are less active than people. They don't need extra additives. They don't need to develop at taste food people food, so they don't want their own food. There also things that are toxic to dogs (caffeine, onions, etc) that may be added to food for taste that may make them sick.

I have 2 Siberian Huskies and I don't feed either one of them people food. One of my dogs is a real garbage mouth - she will eat anything and never refuses her dog food - not a picky eater at all. My other dog is a picky eater, and if I give her people food, she won't eat her dog food, she will just "pick" at it, eating very little of it.

It depends on the food and the age and breed of dog. Usually you can in small increments. Mostly they'll just throw it up if it's bad for them.

There is usually not the correct amount of nutrients that a dog needs. People food will not kill the dog, but, they won't live as long.

feed your dog raw food:
www.rawdogranch.com
"people" food that is cooked is usually too high in fat, carbs or something else. onions and chocolate are poisonous to dogs. see what wolves eat? feed your dog that, it is cheaper than canned or dried kibble anyway when you order in bulk.

if you only give them the occasional treat of people food ans usually give them dogfood it won't hurt them, but giving them people food all the time would damage their health. the problem with giving animals people food (or people eating animal food, for that matter) is that different species have very different nutritional requirements. carnivores like dogs or cats, for instance, need a lot more protein than omnivores like humans, so by always giving a dog human food you'd give them protein deficiency, resulting in oedema, stunted growth, and ulitmately brain damage and blindness. so, let them have it as a treat, but generally give them dogfood.

Dogs stomachs are more sensitive to our foods. They can end up with intestinal problems. And it promotes begging. Chocolate, Onions and Tomato's are toxic to dogs.
