Jesus did not believe in a fiery place of torment. Luke 12:4, 5 reads, directly translated from Greek, not a version of a translation :
4 Moreover, I say to YOU, my friends, Do not fear those who kill the body and after this are not able to do anything more. 5 But I will indicate to YOU whom to fear: Fear him who after killing has authority to throw into Ge·hen´na. Yes, I tell YOU, fear this One.
Gehenna was a trash heap that was constantly lit outside of Jerusalem. Nothing that went in came out. This was the best way he could illustrate the fact that when God does away with evildoers, they will never come back. Ecclesiastes tells us that the dead are conscious of nothing at all (chapter 9 verses 5 and 6).

The problem is not whether or not Jesus believed in hell. The issue is: When Jesus says hell does he mean the same thing as the Italian poet, Dante does in the 14th century?
You see, your concept of hell is based upon Catholic teachings from the middle ages. If you were alive at the time of Jesus and someone mentioned hell or hades or Sheol it would mean something entirely different. The Hebrew concept of the afterlife was different. They believed that there were various levels of the afterlife: Not just heaven and hell, but everything in between as well.
Imagine that when you die you are in the presence of God. God loves everyone and does not deny his love from anyone. But is is holy, perfect and pure light. Nothing impure can be in his presence. So God is a consuming fire, the angels around the throne are called Seraphim (literally, flaming ones). And we are drawn to the throne. Only it's next to impossible to get near it. Those who's souls are not prepared try and find a dark place away from God's light, but no place is far enough. They are in hell, but they are in heaven too.. Heaven and hell are the same place its only your perspective that's different.

Afraid you have that a bit off the mark, a direct mis-quote.
Matthew 10 : 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. And yes, Jesus did believe in Hell. Those that go there will not have an eternal existance as most teach either but will be burned up, turned to ashes and die.

What he is saying is that they can harm the physical, but can't touch the spiritual. But then he says there are those who can touch the spiritual, and those are the people you stay the hell away from or they will make your life a living hell. Hell is a state of mind, not an actual place.
A modern saying that means the same thing is, they can kill you, but they can't eat you.

I dont know but Jesus sure said this:
"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household." (Matthew 10:34-36 NASB)
AMEN AND PRAISE THE LORD
