In the United States, most of the stuff you need comes with it. A notable exception is the memory card.

I give digital cameras as gifts for people and I always give them a memory card and rechargeable batteries with charger. Digital cameras suck up battery life, and it can be really expensive to buy batteries all the time.
I use to work somewhere where digital cameras were sold. Customers always buy enough batteries for the gift reviecer. About half of the time they buy a case to carry to go with it However, most people don't buy memory cards for thier loved ones. Since most digital cameras come with a small memory card, they don;t get it. I would get one.

YOU BUY NOT THING EXTRA except the memory card.
when u buy the camera it will include usb cable as well the battery but if it us AA battery than u have to buy that.
And most of the camera u DIFFERANCE type of Memory card
so make sure u got the right one
for Canon n Nikon use SD card
for Fuji use xD card
for Sony use Memory Stick Pro
base on Compact n ultra Compact model.

Probably all you really need is in the box, but consider one extra battery, if it does not take "AA" batteries. DEFINITELY get a bigger memory card! They ship tiny little cards (16 MB) with cameras just so you can get started, but you will want at least 512 MB or 1 GB. They are cheap enough...

A carrying case, extra battery, large memory card (1GB or higher). If you are speaking of an SLR style digital cam, that's a longer list.
