Most of the time it is likely to turn out unsuccessful since oxygen is needed to get the actual muscular energy needed for the strangulation itself. Therefore it is most likely that the person either run out of steam or simply become unconscious before any permanent brain damage occurs due to oxygen starvation. So, if you are evaluating a method for suicide this is not a high success rate method. (First of all, if you are in fact suicidal you must talk it over with somebody qualified before you decide to go ahead with it).

However, there is a possibility that aggressive strangulation while still in good strength and physical form could inflict tissue damage that could lead to swelling and internal bleeding which intern can lead to suffocation or other complications even when the person eventually becomes incapable of further strangulation.

So the bottom line is, it is unpredictable and should not be taken for granted either as a good way of killing your self or shouldn’t be taken lightly as a safe enough experiment to try out.

no because you will pass out from the lack of oxygen and after you pass out, you will release the hold that you would have with your hands and after you pass out you will automatically start to breath again... I used to hold my breath as a child and my Dr told my mother not to worry about it, just let me pass out, and I would breathe again...

nope, because it requires use of muscles to strangle yourself. and muscles require oxygen to operate. once you start the strangulation, your body and muscles begin to starve of oxygen, and your arm musles begin to shut down, therefore you no longer have the energy/strength to continue.

No. You'll pass out before you die and your hands will loosen - restoring oxygen flow.

Probably not. It looks like you might pass out before you died.
