Some what. A marine usually wants to protect there country, they pray for peace, but still there more than whiling to fight till the death for it.
Snipers, some infantry, special ops. That red spray is what they have been trained for. Imaging for 3 years training in the most rigorous training there is, and never being able to use it. I didn't like jar head, it made the core seem very seedy. And its not like that. But rather a band of brothers willing to die so save the others ***.
In the end, the movie made the need a marine sniper has for being useful in battle a little to over the top. They love to see the red spray, but they wont ever go so over the top if they didn't get it.

I Was excited to see it until I actually saw it.
As a former Marine I have to saw that though parts were authentic, it is a mistake to universalize the author's experience as a overlay for ALL Marine's in that region at that time.
There's many more books that Hollywood didn't pick to make into movies that depict how heroic Marines experienced the conflict. Sadly, Hollywood chose JARHEAD out of all the other war movie screen plays because of its subtle anti-war message.
They sacrified accuracy for preachy.

I haven't been to Iraq but as a former marine I didn't like the movie. To me the characters didn't "feel" like marines. Once again people making movies carry boot camp dialogue over into supposedly post boot camp circumstances...not very authentic. There is a big problem when you see a film adaptation of one persons experience and take that as typical. Oliver Stones "Platoon" was another example of a film supposedly based on a true story which didn't represent my experiences at all.

I think the movie was based on the book jarhead by Anthony Swofford who was a sniper for the marines for the gulf war so the movie is maybe a biography of him like the book.

My husband were given out of the Marines in 2007 and suggested that fantastically a lot no longer some thing replaced into precise. the actually ingredient that replaced into fantastically a lot spot on replaced into the way the existence of the Marines were portrayed... truly the entire dishonest ingredient of issues.

Just like any movie, it was dramatised a lot.
Sure there are some Marines that want to "see the red spray" but there are lots who just want to protect their country. Good Marines are willing to kill if necessary, but only the bad apples like to do it.

Not at all. My husband is US Army, and every single one of his friends DESPISE that movie. The only show that even comes close to capturing the military personnel's attitudes is "Over There." We were referred to it by people who had BEEN down range.
Jarhead SUCKS. Not accurate at all.

..i woud guess it depends on where you are and what ur orders are ... one thing is certain and that is that the information a miltary person gets on the ground is generally less than you know as a civilian .. they tell u theres insurgents in that building and take them out ... thats what you do
