I've been having the most bizarre thoughts in the past 3 weeks. I hate to say this, but I'm really looking for help, I've been having thoughts of murders and killings and I don't know how to stop them. Last week was the worst of all! I would wake up with these thoughts and walk the streets with these thoughts. And I know in my heart that I would never perform such acts but the more I think about them, the more real it seems to me. Is this a form of OCD, anxiety or what? I'm trying my best to stop these thoughts but just when I think I'm relieved from them, it starts back up all over again. What should I do?

Now I'm not angry. But the thoughts seem so real to me as if I would purchase a gun and start blasting ppl for no apparent reason. And of course I never seen a gun in real life and don't know how to shoot or anything. But a lot of the thoughts I'm having are scenes you would see in the movies or something. And I just don't know how to stop them.

Thank you guys so much for your response. I'm actually going to meet with a psychiatrist on monday. I've been doing a lot of research about OCD and I believe that's what I have. I'm still having the thoughts but it's no where near as severe as when I first posted this question. I no longer think to want to "blast" someone -- it's now turned to why have I been thinking such thoughts. I honestly believe that the recent changes in the past few weeks had triggered such thoughts.

As for the television, I haven't been able to watch [cable] television in 3 months. And I've read blogs where ppl were having "withdrawal symptoms" after they've decided to no longer watch television and I wasn't sure if I was experiencing the same thing since I normally rely on television to make me happy. I don''t watch the news or anything about crime, so I wasn't too sure if not having cable had anything to do with it since i haven't been happy since I had it.

In days of old..this would be considered demon possession..or deep psychosis...get to a doctor asap and do not hesitate before you act on these evil thoughts...my prayers are with you

I have OCD. While my thoughts have gotten better from medication, I still struggle not to worry.
When we have OCD, our brain is an overactive thought generator. The littlest thought or idea or question from someone, and we scrutinize, break it down, take it so seriously, and sometimes cannot let it go. A person without OCD is able to have an intrusive thought, but then let it go. We are unable to let it go, and keep evaluating it, and then think something is wrong with us.
My therapist helped me to deal with my thoughts. They were mostly about worry. He said for me not to fight these thoughts. He told me I was the driver on the bus, and I knew my destination was to get to the place where I could feel good and not let my thoughts get to me. Sometimes, listening to the thoughts would get me steered in a direction other than my destination. This is when I would give my "thoughts" a "can of pop" and let them hang around. Then, I am able to steer the bus back to my destination.
There is nothing wrong with you, having these intrusive thoughts, it does sound like OCD. Your mind just keeps going and going, kinda like the energizer bunny, it won't turn off. You can think you are a horrible person, and be ashamed of some of these thoughts.
Don't fight them. Give them a can of pop, or a cup of coffee. Let them be there and carry on in your day.
Meds do help control these thoughts. I would talk to a psychiatrist. NOT a medical doctor. Someone who truly understands what OCD is.

Sounds like you have Pure O, a form of OCD. I have it myself, although those kind of thoughts I can deal with as they're not always in my mind.

I have an obsession with people around me, I just notice them and my eyes focus on them and I can't concentrate, only thinking to look normal, not at them.. which in turn makes my mind think about looking at them.. and so does.

That sounds stupid, but it's hard to explain.

Also, join the stuckinadoorway forum at the bottom of that Wiki page. It's a great little community where you can find advice and help and discuss your OCD with other sufferers. Many people there will no doubt be going through the same thing, myself included.

I know everyone always says "go see a therapist", but this time, I am going to say it, hunny. Go See A Therapist. You might actually need to talk to someone. Talk about some stuff that happened in your past, Talk about things that are happening to you right now. Go vent and rant and talk until you get the demons out of your head, and out of your heart. You may not ever hurt anyone or yourself, you might just have lots of rage and anger, but talking to someone about it could actually help. OCD means Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, I don't think you have OCD. I do think you might need to be put on an anti-depressant, hunny.

You might need medicine, but additionally, I think you need to change your thinking. Yes, you've watched too many movies. It is affecting you deeply. Turn the tv off. Replace the negative thoughts with a good one. Every time you picture blowing somebody's head off, instead, see that person as a child of God. Picture yourself seeing the eternal soul in that person. Feel that - and shut those other thoughts off. Let this become a habit. And take your medicine. Good luck.

Walk, no run to someone you can trust for help..........can you trust your family doctor...........or a minister/priest..........or support group.

I think the news and listening to things that may be scarey can lead to bad dreams and such.

The best thing you are doing is facing your fears.
Yes, opening the window and talking about them.

You can congratulate youself because you are not acting on them.
Perhaps someone is scaring you, and you're not noticing it.

Keep facing your fears, and keep telling your story until you can get others to listen!

Sounds like you have something, and you need to seek professional help before they seriously get worse. Talk to a professional so they can tell you how to make it stop. Also....stop playing video games, and watching movies that involve that stuff to decrease the chance of these thoughts. We don't need any more innocent lives lost.

Its sounds to me like OCD. Its crucial that you get treatment from a psychiatrist tho; it took years and several GP's before I was finally referred. I didn't know what was wrong; I didn't even know what OCD really was. You're really lucky that you've been able to recognise it for what it is! Best of luck!

if your thoughts are accompanied with anger than it might be post traumatic stress disorder, if not, than its probably ocd. its what they call intrusive thoughts for ocd. going to a psychiatrist, or mental health professional a good thing. if its from ocd, than you can manage it. just stoping thinking about it by consciously distracting yourself from the thoughts. if its accompanied by anger because of ptsd, than try and stay calm. i have both ocd and ptsd. my hunch is that its ocd, because you did not mention the anger.

You might. Then again, it could be a number of other things. You need to consult a specialist. You would feel better just knowing what causes them.
