No particular reason why it wouldn't.
Here's a few coz I'm feeling pesimistic today;
dodgy hypnotherapist (fortunately there aren't that many around!)
You own stuborness (like some other answers say "you gotta believe" ! ! (welcome to church!))
It works a little too well, and you lose rational fear when driving; start driving like a complete maniac and then either crash or get arrested.
Oh well, hope I haven't put too much of a downer on your day.
This is probably like the worst case scenario init!
But It's good to get these concerns out.

I know that words cannot begin to explain the horror you are feeling. That being said, you're afraid of your thoughts and you're afraid of your anxiety, but neither of them can harm you. Thinking bad thoughts does not cause bad things to happen. Have peace in mind that physically you and your family is safe. Has your therapist mentioned Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)? It has been known to be effective treating obsessive thoughts. If not you should look into it.

Andrea,
I think it works or not on different levels differently for different people. I have panic attacks when I drive on the highway, so, I don't drive on the highway. Not since 1994.
Couldn't hurt to try I guess. Good luck.

It can. Having someone in the car with you can lessen anxiety also. I know you cannot always have someone with you, but get people to ride around with you for a while while you do different errands. You will be surprised how much that can help you.

hypnosis works only on highly suggestible people. If you devoutly believe it won't work, it probably won't. If you have faith it WILL work, it does. I have a friend that is an assistant to a hypnotherapist. To prove the skill, they interview audience members, and only use the non skeptics.

Drive routes that give you less anxiety if possible. hypnosis only works on people who let it work.

See the links below...also, try Dramamine (R). It is an over the counter product that is renown for reducing "car sickness".
