Seems a lot to take IMO. Why not take less and deposit the rest into an account you can access while you are away - either via Debit or Credit card? If you are determined to take so much with you - make sure you split it into smaller batches and keep it in different places so that you always have a 'fallback' if something happens to one batch.
Happy travelling!

Mark, if you think you need that much on the trip, then pleas do so. Here is a BIG tip! Write down all the serial numbers of the travelers checks. Keep that list COMPLETELY separate from your money and checks. As you cash them, mark off the serial number of the check you cashed. If your money and checks are stolen and you don't have the serial numbers of the checks you are SKROOD, big time!

They are safe and can be replaced within 24 hours. If you are going out of the country, check to see what is the legal amount of money you can take into their country. If traveling in the States, you can take as much as you need.

It is probably the safety way to take money with you on a trip. However, the replacement policy and time will vary by the institution issuing the checks. Check with that institution on their policies.
