This should be somewhere wonderful to take my dad for his 60th, but the dogs must be welcome.

If you're in the UK there is a lovely family run hotel in the Cotswolds about 20 miles from Oxford city called the Tollgate Hotel - check out the website http://www.thetollgate.com/ they take dogs and are set in a lovely little village with loads of places to take the dog out. They have a train station which is only 15 -20 minute journeys to Oxford. Really nice people run it, they have a restaurant that does lovely food and a lovely little bar. Highly recommended, oh and there is an extremely friendly and gorgeous black lab. called Guiness and a fabulous cat called Tinker.

If you're in the UK, the AA has some good books about pet-friendly places to stay. Hopefully there'll be a place with real ale, log fire etc. Either go to their website or there's a direct link here:

Good luck!

Check out this website for pet friendly hotels.

If there is a particular town you want to stay in, then contact a Tourist Information Centre in that area. They should have lists.
