The owners manual says that if it turns on, it is functioning properly, but I'm a little skeptical of that.

Honestly the best thing to do is just drive around with it on. Of course don't speed! Also a radar detector is not a cop detector, it only detects a cop when he/she is operating radar.

So drive around with it for awhile get use to where it falses and such. After a while you will get very use to the detector and know when you can trust it.

there really is no way to test it that im aware of......Just keep a look out when your driving if u see a cop, did it warn you?

i know that grocery store doors make them go off...or at least should..

drive past a police station or something

Go 70 mph thru a 45 mph zone and see what happens.
