There are no hurricanes threatening the Hawaiian Islands at the moment. You can get updates from the link below.

The ferries from Molokai to Lanai leave from Lahaina (which is a place you would be avoiding if you were avoiding tourists). Lanai is a company town, formerly a pineapple plantation, but now all about tourism. Bill Gates rented every hotel room in both hotels when he got married for extra privacy. Unemployment is very low there, because unemployed people don't usually get to live there.

On the other hand, unemployment on Molokai is about three times that on Maui. About half the population is Native Hawaiian, and about three quarters of the kids in school are. Much of the economic activity on Molokai is agriculture on Hawaiian Home Lands (which can only be leased or worked by individuals with 50% or more Native Hawaiian ancestry) or Genetically Modified Corn planted by Monsanto for research.

Molokai is not about tourism, Molokai is not about economic progress, Molokai is not about anybody's idea of paradise. Hula is big, but is usually practiced to perpetuate the culture, not to entertain tourists. Folks on Molokai have actively protested against cruise ships docking at Kaunakakai, against the Superferry, and against residential development and the sale of land on Molokai by outsiders.

There are only two hotels on Molokai, few condos, no traffic lights, one elevator, one chain restaurant (Subway), and only about 7000 residents. Are their beautiful places on Molokai? There sure are. Are their beaches and places you could sip a tropical drink? There are a few.

But there's one kind of tourist Molokai is trying to attract, and that's the folks from Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island who remember what those islands used to be like before runaway development. Other people are welcome to come, but you gotta be sure to take Molokai on its own terms, which may be very different from your own.

I went to Maui. Its beautiful. Now if I dont get the islands mixed up, I believe the road to HANA is on that island. Its like 40 or so miles up. But the road is very windey, alot of one way roads. So leave alot earlier in the morning. It will take u to the 7 Pools (actually there is a lot more, they just call it that).

I took the road and got the tee shirt !! I bought a tee shirt i survivied the road to hana at a store at the top.

Have fun.

A sunrise or sunset at Haleakala Crater summit is always beautiful. Swimming with dolphins in La Perouse bay around 7am is always fun. Little Beach on a sunday night is always in testing. Rolling in the waves at big beach is great. My personal favorite is the road to Hana, eating some banana nut bread, then going wainapapa state park with black sand, then going on a hike through the Bamboo forest towards a 600 foot waterfall, thats at the 7 pools.

Both of these answers are right, do not miss the Road to Hanna. Pack a picnic lunch and rent the tape and a car. It is so worth the trip. I think it has 52 one lane bridges and she right about the road being extremely curve, around 300 hair pin turns. It is a full days trip, but you can go at your own pace and stop whenever you like. Have fun!!!!!

Try excursions to nearby islands of Lanai and Molokai. These islands are only accessible from Maui by boat.
