It is not that you are being too overprotective, you are just being a mother and that is your right. It is OK for little children to go in public pools. Exposure to germs helps a child build up their immune system.. This will help your son when he goes to school because it will cut down on sick days..

All in all it is your call because you are the parent!

Public pools are usually very sanitary. It varies from state to state, but due to health code they have to check ph levels at least once every two hours. Babies and toddlers are required to wear swim diapers, so the risk of them doing anything in the water is very low. As for the other children, it would take a lot of children peeing in the pool to effect anything.
I wouldn't say that you are being overly protective, just overly cautious. You're a good mom and there's nothing wrong with that. It is important to teach your child to swim. Good luck.

I think you need to relax. Clorine kills the bacteria in the pool. Or get a pool your self that you know is clean and invite other parents with babies arund your son's age to swim. Like baby swim day. This way other mom's are watching their own baby and you feel safer about your baby's health.

Millions of children swim in public pools. Some get sick, some don't. We as parents try to protect our children. that's natural. Don't let him swim in the pool and he might fall off his bike and need stitches. My point is you can't shelter him, If something is meant to happen it will, then deal with it. Either way, let him be a kid so if something ever would happen (god forbid). you won't regret not letting him be a kid in the first place.

No, you're not being overprotective. I'm almost 21 and I've never been in a public pool, ever, for those exact reasons.

Oh, let him swim. Public pools have to have the correct chemical levels in them or they cannot open by law. It is regulated by the health dept. He'll be fine!!

It's OK for him to go in, but never get comfortable leaving him or looking away. Chlorine does it all as far as the germs.
