Okay, well I know everyone has an expectation on looks for their mate, friend, whatever. But I was wondering, why is that, what is the complex. In my situation, I guess I'm not up the guys phsyical standards, and he stopped talking to me even though we are or were only friends. Shallow... I'll leave that up to you to decide?

Hmmmm.... Tough call.

Well, first, we are ALL attracted to what we like, and that usually comes through our sense of sight initially.

Don't take my word for it. Look at the billions of dollars spent on model agencies, fashion, and advertisement a year.

But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Physical attractiveness does play an important role when choosing a partner. It was the primary indicator for health in a person. I mean, no one wants to date Gollum from Lord of the Rings.

But I could be wrong.

I think most of it has to do with how you feel about yourself. If inside you feel like you don't meet expectations, then you will give off an insecure vibe and that is way less attractive than how you look. People like to surround themselves with others that are happy with themselves. I know it can be hard, but always try to find something you like about your appearence. You will start feeling better about yourself, and pretty soon you will have a glow about you. Or as I like to call it, you kinda *sparkle* That's the confidence shining through!

No, because I make up for it with my other attributes. Standards today seem to get higher and higher. But, I'm not going to kill myself trying to prove anything. Because there will always be someone better looking or smarter than me but I accept it and go on. I am who I am. He should like you for who you are. Friends stick by friends regardless. You should just ask him why he quit talking to you. That way you will know. Maybe he thought your friendship was in jeopardy? I don't know. But be sure to let me know about your situation. Always remember everyone has a flaw. Seen and unseen.

Sure, being an overweight female, I've had it happen before. It's pretty shallow when someone bases everything on looks.
