I've used this method on MANY dogs.. it's always worked.

Have them first learn to lay down.... holding a treat... do a circular motion with your hand while saying.. "Roll over".. and gently roll them over. Then praise them.. giving them the small treat. Eventually they get it.. (faster than you'd think!)

you need to train your dog. every single time your dog rolls over(you have to roll it over) give the dog a treat and say good dog. do this evertime, and make sure the treat is given within seconds of accomplishing the task and in no time your dog should be able to rollover. also you want to repeat the word roll over when you roll the dog over so he/she learns the comand

I've never tried THAT, but I notice my dog rolls over when I scratch his belly. He's usually already laying down. You could try that, and say "Roll over" while you're doing it. Hopefully, he'll associate the words with the scratching he likes, and do it on command? Also, you should start w/basic commands like "Sit", "stay" and "lay down". It is typically a bad idea to use the treat to lure the dog in a certain direction or to so a certain motion... they are reaching for the treat not completing a motion.

If you notice most dogs will sniff your hand if you hold it out towards them. hold your hand out to your dog, with the palm facing their face and see if he sniffs or moves for it. If so, reinforce that behavior. Call it "touch"

I use the touch command extensively with my dog to teach her to stand on 2 legs, "spin" to the left or "go round" to the right". i also use it when we are outside off of the leash and i need her to come back to me, she has to successfully touch before I will allow her to go out and play more.

Once you get them comfortable with the "touch" command you will do it in segments to lure them around with your hand not the treat.

so they would need to touch with your hand in front of their face, then you move it slightly behind and they have to touch again, then slightly behind and they will have to touch again until they have to roll onto their back to get you. if they flip around discourage that behavior and encourage them moving onto their back slightly.

It will take them a long time to learn it and I have to admit my dog will not roll over because she was raised by cats (im serious), and HATES being on her back (and water).

I hope this helped.
