She is only 15 months old. She has way to much energy. To try to keep her off of the leg is impossible. She runs even with the bad leg. When I let her out to use the bathroom, she wants to run. W/o taking her to the park, she is going crazy. One more question, could this have happened when she was being spayed? The night she came home is when the leg started to act up. It has been about a year and the pain comes and goes depending on how hard she plays.

ABSOLUTLY she will be 100% a normal dog, though it may take about 6 months for her to get full use of that leg. I dont know if you are in an area that she can swim in but swimming is a great way to restrengthen that leg without alot of impact. I know 12 year old dogs who have had the cruciate surgery who you would never know anything happened. I also know dogs as young as yours that had it done and have had no problems!!

I would have to say that most likely this was not done when she was spayed, but i cant say its not possible. But more vets and techs use extreme cuation when dealing with animals under anesthesia.

I am not sure if you mentioned in your other question what breed she was, i dont remember....but some breeds are prone to it. Also remember IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to keep her weight down. If she is a lab they are prone to get fat which is awful for their knees and hips, especially if one is already bad.

Again, at this young age, this procedure is necessary for an enjoyable life for your furry friend!! :)

Good luck, you can email me with any more questions if you have them at danielle5247@yahoo.com

The surgery to repair a torn cruciate tendon works very well. I've assisted with this particular surgery many times over the years and I have never seen it not be successful.

Did the vet say that your dog has any other knee problems such as a luxating patella? If the knee was already unstable, this condition could contribute to the torn ligament. What breed is your dog?

As far as the injury occuring while she was at the vet, it is unlikely. The dog's front and rear legs are tied down to the operating table during a spay. Perhaps if she jumped out of the cage or off a exam table.....but that is something you will never know.

Why have you waited a year for the surgical repair. Does the leg seem to be getting worse?

You dog is young and active, so the knee does need to be repaired.

I'm not sure how spaying could have effected that leg, unless something was already wrong.

Talk with the vet: He might be able to recommend some kind of brace. I don't know what was wrong with the leg, but since she is a young dog there is a very good chance she will regain full use of it.

Good luck!

You must take your dog to your vet. Only a professional veterinarian can answer this question; we are just a bunch of non professionals. A dog's life is too important to let us advise you.

It sounds as though she may have nerve damage from the surgery.
