Tyler,
One whole year is a long time. You can achieve loads by then. Good to see that you are actually serious about what you want and also sound very determined. With this kinda determination you are almost on the way to achieve what you want. Now getting into business, you might want to have a look at this article which talks about speeding up metabolism which will help you keep in shape :

You did specify that you don't want to spend a dime, well if in any case you change your mind, I strongly recommend this http://www.YahooRecommends.com/RecommendedWL.php
book which was of great help for me.
All the best for your career.

If your young, 16 and younger then I don't recommend you try to build muscle. Why, because your would still be growing. If you want to reach your maximum potential, wait until you go through most of your growth development because if you start gaining muscle before you won't grow as tall. Gaining muscle at a young age will stunt growth. Think about it.... do you want to be a short guy with muscles? OR be in a good size or taller with a good body. Trust me, I know, not that I'm a megit but I could have been taller then 5'9 by now.
if your in a good age, like 17, do more push up and eat more protein.

Probabaly running. But if you mean that you don't have running shoes and don't want to buy them, then I'd say walking. You really don't need to buy anything to walk (not even shoes). Try to find like a park that has a trail or just walk around your house.
These are also pretty easy to do (if you have the basics):
Jump rope - works a lot of your body
Sit ups
You can also go hiking just with a good pair of sneakers.
Hope that helps!

you have to be able to run fast for longer than the duration of a football game so your training runs should be longer than a game double if possible, also do circuit wieght training in a gym every other day to build power and of course eat the right diet - not a decent diet the right diet (plenty of advice online about diets but stick to sensible ones from nutritonists / not the nutty ones from gurus) also ask the coach for help you might not be going for football till next year but if you say hey coach i want to be in better shape so i make the team, not only will they help AND your more likely to make the team

Some ideas are pushups, crunches, chinups/pullups. But if you can find the 20 bucks a month for a gym membership, it will go a long way.

Start swimming, and running miles.
That will help build up cardio stamina.
Lifting weights can help as well, so start lifting things that are certain weights around the house.
