As much as I despise their ideals and their methodical forcefulness.... Why don't the other "Christian" Religions offer up a free scripture for someone who is a border-line believer, in order to "Help" persuasiveness? Rather than charge monetary values for everything from a piece of paper, to the Scripture, to getting a Hi-Tech system (Cameras, projection TV's, computer software, amps, 5-piece Band) for the sermons. Isn't there more to be gained from getting back to the basics and "Practicing what you Preach"?

Cari- Does that mean that if not for the Hi- Tech, you wouldn't attend Church to Worship?

Also, if Tithings aren't spent on your Hi-Tech systems, then where does the $$ go, if not for the betterment of the Church? The last service I attended, lasted about an hour and over 1/2 of it was "Give your Tithings! Learn to live without! Praise be to God! Now GIVE, GIVE, GIVE!" Yet, they have all these material goods and it seems all they do is TAKE, TAKE, TAKE!

You can go to any book store, and be charged for the book of mormon too.

Or you could go to a priest or other believer, and tell them you don't have a bible and would like to find a free one, and you will be helped.

Its the economy vs religion, and is not a clear line. But you can certainly find free scripture. Even online.

I think all Christian religions (although Mormon's aren't Christian) should offer Scriptures and other literature for free.

The problem is that most churches can't afford it because its members don't tithe. The Mormon church requires its members to tithe, so they have lots of money. If there were ever a Christian church that had all its members tithing, it would have so much money it wouldn't know what to do with it all.

Our pastor once told us that it cost an average of $8 per week per person just to run our church. You can bet that most people in our congregation make more than $80 per week, per person, even when you include families.

Like in all things, a bible is expensive to print. I am positive that if you need a bible and you can't afford one, someone will give you a free one. I don't understand what you are saying about charging for the Hi-Tech systems. My church is very high-tech, and I haven't been charged to attend. If your talking about tithe, well, thats biblical and Gods commandement of us in order to take care of our leaders, and NO, that money does not go to purchasing new equipment. As far as where the money comes from for the High-tech stuff, it is either donated or purchased using other money that the church family has generously given. And no, I don't want to get back to the basics of church service. I enjoy the hi-tech stuff, and I don't see anything wrong with it.

Why not get it for free from the net?
Gutenberg.net
religioustolerance.org

both offer free copies( Ebooks) . Print them and distribute them!!!

Don't cast a stone unless you have been practicing what you preach yourself ;-)

As far as giving out free bibles is concerned, my old school did that( and still does it, I believe). But then , it was run by church fathers. Ooh, my butt hurts when I think of that school.

The sadistic principal had a bamboo plantation near the cathedral, from where he chose the thinnest and most stingingly painful canes. So much for christian value of forgiveness!!!

Try http://www.family.org under the "Resources" section.

They'll give you up to $100 worth of free religious garbage for free. Just bypass the donation page. Seriously, my brother-in-law sent me a whole box full of crap that I won't read or use because he is "concerned" about me.

But to answer your question, wouldn't it be because many of the Christians who are "famous" are pretty much just that? Celebs who pretty much want fame and fortune, so they don't give anything away...they just feed off the mindless herds of sheep and take all thier money.

two organizations come to mind - The Gideons, and the American Bible Society. Both will send you a FREE Bible, just for the asking. Other organizations will also give you a free bible, but they're trying to get you on their mailing list.

p.s. - you are a Christian - can i get a free Bible from you? there are publication costs - underwrite them!

What religion will not provide a copy of their beliefs free of charge? Mormons are looking for converts because they have an alternative religion.

Well, I am mormon. and we just like to feel good about our selves and knowing that we are helping someone get back on track to there religion makes us feel good. Missionaries also go around and talk to people who have family problems and try to get them to come to our church to bear there testimony or just talk to the bishop so he can see what he can do to help.
