First get a plug in cat calming unit.works like an air freshner but for stressed cats. Then get new litter boxes, bigger an deeper then his old ones.if he has a favorite place outside thebox, put a new one there for awhile.i have had friends with cats totally retrain them to the litter box by crating them with a large cardboard box covering the entire crate floor aboit 2 inches deep.this way they had to go in the box an were praised when it was cleaned.Since it takes 2 weeks to break a habit, crate training must continue constantly for this amount of time.

I bet your cat don't like the smell of it's cat litter! Try scent free, it worked for me and my friend. Tidy cat has a new one out, it says on the container, new, Tidy Lock, and it don't smell! It is scoopable. Try a littermaid, the box will always be clean then. I know you keep it clean, but you can't always be right there, this will help. One time i did buy 2 litterboxes, used the tidy lock cat litter and she peed in one and pooped in the other, no problems!!!! Only put a little litter in it so the cat will squat. My friend buysa scent free, arm and hammer, believe me, no cat could be worse than hers, and it worked! Also, keep the box or boxes in an area where thereis no traffic. I know this makes you mad, I was too. So give what i said a try. I read some of the suggestions that was written to you, never yell or hit or spray your cat with water, this will make your cat even more nervous when it comes to the litterbox and it may go somewhere else in the house. Spraying it with water will make it very hard when you need to give your cat a bath too. Never let the cat accoiate anger with the cat box, kitty will think going to litterbox all together will be bad, and you don't want that! Good Luck

Sounds to me like a behavior problem. My male cat gets mad and pees outside box when I am not paying enough attention to him. When I changed the type of food he ate, another episode of peeing outside box. When the litter type was changed...again. I can't give you a cure (I checked with VET..there is no cure..it is psychological when this happens) all you can do is find something he likes, or put him down. Try changing the type of litter to a different smell, or using just sand. It could be the consistancy of that or the odor. Hope I helped.

Maybe change the area of the litter box, maybe he wants privacy and no one seeing what he does. When you spot him going into the litter box, praise him for doing that and remember to clean out the poop in the litter box. My female cat hates it and lets me know about it being dirty, i get told verbally and by being swatted in the leg cuff, also if the brand isn't the one she likes well you know the rest. It may be that he doesn't like the feel and smell of the kitty litter you buy. WEll I guess too that he know longer is a true male and the male tract in the cat needs lots of water.

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!
Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

My fix was to replace the plastic litter box every time I went through a large container of litter. The buildup on the box itself eventually made my male cat pee on one of my shirts in the floor. When he did that, I placed him in the closet with the litter box for about 4 hours after I told him NO and held his face to the pee for him to smell it and know I was disappointed. He has never done it since that moment. They are like children, and that is the worst discipline I have ever had to do to an animal.
It may be worth the extra $4 to buy a new plastic litter box when you buy the container of litter.

Are you sure he hasn't got urinary tract infection or crystals? Because this behaviour is typical of discomfort when urinating. Have you done a urine analysis? Check for PH (it should be 6-6,5), blood, bacteria and crystals. You can collect urine by putting a sterile cup under his tail when he pees. Also try urinary formulas (PH balancing) of some good pet food to see if there is some improvement. If he strains when urinating, it could be blockage - that needs medical care immediately. If there is indeed no medical problem, whenever you see him ready to pee, grab him and put him in the litter box, with clean sand, saying firmly NO. Also you may try putting him in the litter box when it is his usual time to pee, right after you put clean sand in it. My cat usually pees when I do that. Good luck. Finally, now he may smell his urine in some places in the house outside the litter box and now he goes back there. Clean thoroughly with some detergent that has a strong smell.
PS. I read another answer right now. DON'T put him down, that is attrocious. Death penalty for peeing? If you can't stand this, give him to someone who has outdoor cats.

First, each and every time there's a surprising substitute in habit, evaluate that it must be a medical undertaking. Take your cat to the veterinarian for a good examination. ascertain to tell your veterinarian appropriate to the abode-soiling undertaking. if your cat gets a sparkling bill of wellbeing, listed below are some issues you are able to evaluate: muddle cleanliness: verify you hold the muddle container very sparkling. Cats are sparkling animals and a few could prefer their container meticulous. this could mean scooping a million-2 cases on a regular basis and/or changing the entire textile each and every 3-4 days. muddle container area: examine around the place the muddle container is to ascertain that there is not any longer something appropriate to the area that the cat could come across a undertaking. this could be a noisy equipment, human beings walking by, the dogs drawing close, close by toddlers taking part in, or different cats contained in the relatives individuals. It's not spraying if it's on the floor. Males spray in a vertical pattern. And I don't think you need to get him fixed....since he already is, lol.
The only thing I can really think of is the actual box itself. Is it covered? If it is, try it without the cover. If it's NOT, try getting a box with a cover. If that doesn't work, behavior modification strategies are in order. Pick up a copy of Cats for Dummies (excellent reference book!), and check out the chapter on unwanted behaviors. There are several strategies in there you could try.
Good luck!
