Step one is to believe in God. Not Christianity.
Step two is God wrote the Holy Bible through inspired believers.
Step three...God does prohibit a Christian from marrying a non-Christian. Only because of the potential heartache and SPIRITUAL division that takes place immediately. Light cannot walk with darkness, would be the Biblical example. But the Holy Bible also covers the fact that two people can meet and marry each other, long before they become believers. So for example the woman becomes a Christian during the course of that marriage. In that case only God wants the believing wife to STAY with the unbelieving husband because the believing partner can sanctify and bring the unbeliever to God through faith, prayer and true LOVE. Otherwise God very clearly tells believers to avoid being "unequally yoked" with an unbeliever. Not only does this obviously mean in marriage but also in personal contacts, meaning (friends) or (business partners). The same spiritual rule always applies. Light ( the Christian ) cannot have fellowship with darkness (the non-Christian ). Does God banish one to hell for marrying a non-believer? Certainly not. But you're asking for trouble that you cannot even comprehend, only because it's deep and spiritual. For true, beautiful, supernatural harmony....each person must BELIEVE IN GOD. If you're married to an unbeliever, stay with him or her as God commands. But pray for their very soul to come to God. That's why God wants you to stay in that marriage. If the unbelieving partner leaves the marriage, then you've done what God required of you. If you're divorced by an unbeliever, you are then free to marry again with NO guilt or condemnation. I think your next choice would certainly be a Christian. Hope I helped. God Bless.

Prohibit- No! Recommend- Yes! If you truly believe the Scripture and take it as law, then you should think twice before going against the masses. However, there is a very fine line and alot is up for interpretation..... Is this "Non-Christian" truly an unbeliever or have they just not been schooled "properly"? And is this "Christian" a true believer, or have they just conformed to society and upbringing without really taking their own thoughts into account?

Personally, I believe that it could be possible, but conforming is inevitable for one of the parties involved..... and I guarantee it won't be the Christian doing the conforming.

No, the Bible does not prohibit the marriage of a christian to a non christian. However, it does warn us not to do so. Simply because of the potential for added trouble to the marriage.
ie.difference of spiritual beliefs can put more stress on the marriage.

Preacher gave you the scripture.
Such a marriage will most likely cause a lot of conflict (like on this site) or the Christian might give up their beliefs to make the marriage better.

Yes it does.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
2 cor.6:14[niv]

The Reason that those types of marriages are not recomended is because, the unbeliever will most times lead the believer away from their first love, (God)

No. Although most pastoral counceling will remind you that if you are not compatable at this level then how are you going to reconcile other differences? It usually makes for a shaky foundation to build a relationship on. (this pretty much goes for any two religions thinking about being married Imagine an agnostic marrying an athiest LOL)

Yes, if you truly want to follow the Bible, it talks about being unevenly yoked. This is yet another one of the reasons that I would never consider being a Christian.

The Catholic Church allows marriage between Catholics and non-Catholics.

Because the Church recognizes the tremendous challenge that the interfaith couple will face, they may have to get permission from the bishop.

With love in Christ.

We all need to be wary of any religion that prohibits anything because by doing so you are doing away with free-will, which is a god-given right.
