Wow...this really opposes what the last Pope said. Pope John Paul II actually said the books were edifying for kids.

It was the "Chief Exorcist" not the Pope, who said this, but the Pope will probaby jump on the bandwagon. His saying this (and other Christians jumping on this bandwagon) is more of a commentary on the decline of literature than anything else. People don't understand symbolism, imagery, and allusions the way that we used to. Educated Christians are reading Harry Potter and loving it, because it is so full of these things.

JK Rowling is a Christian (Protestant, though, which might be part of this guy's grudge), and her faith resonates throughout the books. Anyone who denounces the books based on religion needs to go back to high school lit class and learn a bit about how to understand imagery!

It hurts the church when people make statements like this, because it makes them look uneducated.

Here's a selection taken from this website:

The Christian Meaning: The Harry Potter books do not offer a generic 'good over evil' message. Ms. Rowling writes the powerful, spiritual answer in story form to mankind's larger questions in the only language even a post Christian culture can understand: she writes in the symbols and doctrines of the Christian faith. Harry Potter fans enjoy a resurrection experience in every book and are awashin word pictures and images of Christ and souls in pursuit of perfection in Him. Without this specific meaning, Rowling could not have achieved her unprecedented popularity in a culture that only knows of God in these forms.

If they are, it won't be for their association with the making of the Harry Potter book and/or movies!

Neither actually teach magic, by the way. The church condoned the practice of slavery (among other things) which was real, so pardon me if I'm not interested in their stance on Harry Potter, an absolutely harmless work of fiction.

Its a great series of books/video clips. And the witchcraft it is presented interior the books isn't actual...needless to say. additionally Witchcraft isn't evil. Its an historical practice it is in keeping with Nature and the steadiness of the Divine female and Masculine. The Church unfold alot of statements around asserting that the previous faith became Satanic as a fashion to persue their own endeavors and convert the regular public to their own regime. i will say this, JK did rather some analyze regarding action magickal components and ideals. yet it is approximately so some distance because it is going. Wiccans and witches love the flicks for the reality that it provides witchcraft in an excellent mild, even though if its fictional.

No! Harry Potter is fiction. Pure, fun, fiction. Did the Pope even READ the books? What right does he have to condemn the books if he hasn't even read them! I am a HP fan and I'm a Catholic Christian. Again, it is harmless fiction.

If you believe in organized religions, then you may be aware that everyone is going to hell. There are at least two different religions in the world that each state if you don't believe in that religion you will go to hell, so everyone is going to hell.

Harry Potter is a work of fiction that has some fantastical elements to it, so does that mean that every author who ever wrote a fiction book with magic in it is going to hell? I don't think so.

I often wonder why people have such a fascination with hell and always want to know who is going.
If there is a hell, I doubt authors of books that have brought joy to the young and old alike would go there because of words they wrote.
BTW, Harry Potter books have nothing to do with the teaching of Witchcraft.

The Pope is not the judge of mankind. That job belongs to Jesus. If all those associated with the movies production go to hell, then wouldn't all those who watched the movie go to hell too?

No, only the people who don't allow their children to read them will. If you every took the time to get off of your tractor and get some fancy book learnin' you'd understand that they don't ACTUALLY teach any magic at all! They tell a good moral story! It's just a world of magic and fantasy......alot like the bible.
