I honestly love everyone and don't mean this to be mean, or offensive, but I'm reading people who tell me that they believe in God or Jesus or whatever because of the reward that they would get, ie - heaven.

This applies to muslims too who say they get a reward.

What does it say about a person's charachter that the reason they have a religious belief . . .. is a reward? Here doggy heres your treat.

Give me a bone.

Well if you agree with Maslow's hierarchy, it would say that these ppl have not progressed to the point where they do anything out of intrinsic motivation--for the simple reason that it's the right and moral thing to do. These ppl are extrinsically motivated--they're only doing "good" b/c they want a reward. True to form, a new Christian is often most excited about having "fire insurance"--an escape from hell. But as the person matures in their beliefs, they come to recognize responsibilities and opportunities that come with the belief they've chosen to adhere to...so I guess it's about maturity.

I love you too.

I have a great dane/rotteweiller mix. I spend $75 a month on food. I buy the best for my baby boy. I refuse to buy him junk food when I spend so much monthly. As a result he is lean, muscular and he loves me. No treats. He does what I say because he is supposed to, not because he will receive a reward. A reward would only undermine the good I am doing in the first place. (I love analagies, sometimes people won't get it and sometimes they will)
He does anything I order him to do, immediately, no hesitation, no sad eyes. Isn't that what it's all about?

I am a Christian because I have no place else to go!
I completely screwed up my life when I was younger. I have had many painful things happen that were actually a result of my stupidity. Fourteen years ago, when I became a Christian, my life has been joyous and content. I am not saying without pain and suffering but with peace and joy. I am not too concerned about heaven right now but when things are really bad , it does sound like a good place to go! I dont want to be too specific here but if you are curious you may email me...........or not
Thank you for your questions. I like to have someone challenge my beliefs!

i do not imagine any "bashing" should be executed in any respect, yet i can understand why human beings don't like Christianity. They watch most of the those that declare to be Christians and they arrive off as rude, hypocritical, and actually judgmental and so that they choose no longer some thing to do with them. basically as you're making a good type of blunders, so do Christians. yet Christians have many evaluations on controversial subject matters that most of the international and the media do not consider, so we are scrutinized more effective, it really is basically existence. Many Christians seem to contradict themselves, like you've been retaining about homosexuality and such. we are not meant to hate those that are gay, we are only meant to hate what they do. we are nevertheless meant to love human beings, no count number what their existence form selections are. no matter if you compromise with homosexuality, you need to nevertheless appreciate those that are gay and appreciate the those that disagree with that existence form. We should not be judging or hating or bashing each person with diverse perspectives. you're to blame of that and so am I. no count number your faith or lack thereof, you need to be loving to everybody. the those that declare to be Christian yet do not love everybody isn't actual Christians, yet they tell human beings they're, so that they provide the different Christian a nasty call. i'm via no skill a proper Christian, yet i extremely attempt no longer to be hypocritical because what i trust desires to be how I stay. I nevertheless screw up on party, yet i'm attempting, as are the different actual Christians. i imagine we a minimum of deserve somewhat credit for that. we are trying, and that is extremely all we may be able to do. you're generalizing, and also you shouldn't be. there are one of those great number of loving and delightful Christians obtainable. There are some that are judgmental and hypocritical the way you describe, yet they're no longer all that way. I thoroughly consider Wilson - you're bashing and generalizing Christians, then telling us how judgmental we are? seem in the reflect before you element your finger at us.

Why would you give a dog a carrot? Look I love God because he first loved me. The fact that I will get a better eternity because I will be with him??? Is that a reward??? I want to be with him because I love him I love him so I can be with him. heaven is were I will be because that is were he is. I think you missunderstand Reward and Punishement. Heaven is not a "reward" it is a natural consequence of loving. Hell is not a punishement it is a natural consequence of rejecting. It is like if I say Do you like U2 because I have 2 free tickets for anyone who would like to come with me. If you like U2 and say yes then you will come and see the concert and be entertained and will be happy. If you say no then you reject the tickets and go elsewhere and are not entertained and are unhappy. Understand?

What's wrong with getting a reward? Do you work for a livivng? If so, you are getting a reward--it's called money. And if you like your job, you are also rewarded with self-fulfillment, etc. It's called incentive. If people didn't have incentives to do things, they would never get out of bed.

Do you fetch your paycheck like a dog--because that's basically what you're saying. Anyone who likes being rewarded is acting like a dog. Unless you're a masochist, being rewarded is a lot better than being punished.

Well, I'd consider not burning in hell for eternity a pretty good side benefit of obeying God, but certainly not the main reason for doing it. It's based more on love and obedience.

You speak the truth, my pastor was shocked to find out that many of the younger people he knows don't come to church because they don't see any miracles. We are not to seek Christ for rewards, we are to seek Him for truth and joy, peace, grace, humility, rest, wisdom, guidance.Turning to Christ just to go to heaven is no different than what you have said. As I heard it said by a pastor, "Religion is for people who don't want to go to hell, Christianity is for people who have been through hell." I want to go to heaven, but I concern my walk with Christ in terms of how I raise my kids, treat my wife, and how I deal with others who don't believe in God.

Yes, and the reward is always after death. Why not get your rewards here on Earth while you're alive? Follow Buddhism and you can create happiness for yourself and others right now on Earth.

I think what they are referring to is enduring the knocks here in this live to be blessed with an eternity of peace :-)
If they are looking for any other kind of reward, they are misled.
