Usually a buck or two, depending on the fare. I've been doing a two-buck minimum lately. Then again, I don't usually take long taxi rides, only relatively short ones when I'm in a hurry.

not much because if they know your from out of town their going to rip you off anyway.:-) Call and ask ahead what the trip will cost, depending what you can afford 10-15 is appropriate. But you will find its hard to get them to stop, they do a lot of business, call ahead and preplan. If not treated appropriately I tip a quarter to just make a point:-)

I'd give hime between 10 and 20%, depending on how lost he gets.

I don't believe in tipping, it is degrading to everyone.
It's like you're saying "I'm sorry you choose to work for a company that can't afford to pay you a decent wage, so here, please let me give you more of my hard earned money than I should, as a gesture of charity."

10 percent is fine. . .most people will do 15%. New Yorkers are notorious for "overtipping".
